Nah he doesn't hate it, just doesn't think it's worth pouring the money into.

And I totally agree with his point, if I'm going to spend tens of thousands of dollars I'd rather bang fenders with other drivers in wheel to wheel racing than hit cones. IMO if I'm going to trailer a car to an event it's because there's a not insignificant chance it won't be drivable at the end of the day. But that's entirely personal preference and choice.

Don't get me wrong, I love autocross as much or more than HPDE at this point and am seriously considering an STX build, but I've got another second to find in my driving before I drop a good $10k on building a car I could take to nationals...

Any of you SM folks care to share what size hoosiers you're fitting under the stock bodywork? Wheel specs too if you're feeling generous?

I've given up on being pax competitive, but I'm going FI so I may as well make the most of it.

I test fit a 275/40/17 on a 17x9 wheel spaced out to +40 and it fit in the front and rear. That's with -2.8 degrees in front and -2 in the rear. The front you start to get near suspension components on full lock though so spacing it slightly further out might be advantageous. I'd just do bolt-on flares in the front if you are going that route anyways. They fit fine in the rear.

Thanks for the help. I'm surprised they fit that well as those are over an inch taller than stock. I run a lot more negative camber so I might go just a tad skinnier than that if they are available. 265/35 would be my preference but I don't see them on tire rack. They do have 275/35 though....

based on the discussion looks like SM should at least use hoosiers. i will be having a 245/40/17 re71r and eventually an extra set of wheels for hoosiers.

How did the 285/315 Hoosiers fit up front with stock fenders?

I love my STX build right now but I know once the frz86s go out of style I was thinking an sm-lite build would be fun with a Street legal super charger and just slap some Hoosiers onto it for giggles. I figured even 245/40/17 Hoosiers would be a tight fit on 17x9 STX wheels...

285s fit without a lot of drama with the right offset, mine ended up at 38mm. In my case I have the racerx front arms and the design isn't indented so the tire barely hits the control arm at full lock. Everything is close but they don't get closer under compression. The rear depending on the offset you run close to where the body opening is for the shock, there is a lip there which kind of sticks out.

315 is an entirely different story. I bought the wheels with the tires on them. The 315s are not only wide they are also very tall. The easy button is just space it out till things fit and cut the body/add flares but it's not ideal for autox. It would require relocating some things and cutting stuff to keep from doing that.

wut
that's kind of the basic starting point required for building a competitive Street Prepared/Street Mod/Prepared car, anything less is leaving speed on the table.

Cheers for the 285's fitting though, gives me the confidence to gamble on the 275/35/17 A7's when I decide to hit the purple crack pipe again.
