Carb legal

Hey all I've been trying to find out what's legal to change for the exhaust components and I've found mixed answer. I know the headers are illegal but what about front and over pipes? Thanks!

It is legal to change the catback with is anything behind the CAT, which is the front pipe. So changing anything in front of the front pipe (Front pipe, overpipe, headers) is technically illegal. A lot of owners still run aftermarket parts and just revert back to stock if they get a fix it ticket or comes time for smog check

anything after the front pipe is fine. just find a nice quiet mature exhaust and you will be fine.

Front pipe is illegal, but so is tinting your front windows.

Only catback is legal, anything else illegal.

Nowadays, CA cops will site you if they think you've done anything to ANY part of your exhaust, even change the tips. If it sounds louder than what they determine is stock, they will right you a fix-it ticket and charge you a penalty. At this point, you might as well change everything and worry about your actions later. Just stay away from those "take over" events.

I wonder if unbolting everything from the header back is legal? The law states that the emissions equipment must be original to manufacturer spec. But I wonder if there's wiggle room for it being unbolted? Please try this and let us know.
