Looks like either clutch slip or a funny throttle behavior.

A datalog would be helpful. You can catch repeatable bugs on a log pretty easily with a little patience.

3 dead belts in the last 2 months. Started troubleshooting and found this. 52K+ on blower, 87K+ on car. This is the fixed, grooved idler pulley under the alternator.

FYI--We have drive pulleys and idler pulleys in stock.

Drive pulleys--85mm, 80mm, 75mm, 69mm. All of these are steel, like what you get out of the box.

My car now has 87K+ on the ODO, and it has been boosted since 34.4K. I'm currently running the 69mm Delicious pulley on it.

I've ate 3 belts in the last 2 months. When this happens the belt usually ends up at least half way off toward the front of the car.

There was a significant amount of play in the fixed idler under the alternator. See here for a video of the play in the pulley: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v...type=2&theater

I've since replaced that pulley, and put an new tensioner on the car. Just visually looking at it I can say the tensioner pulley is definitely moving a lot less. I'm fairly confident that the issue is resolved, but the next autox event will be the test.

Just wanted to share this in case anyone else is having belt issues.

I am having an odd belt issue since installing, my unit is new less than 3k miles.

My issue happens with the Water Pump Pulley portion starting to be off by 1-2 ribs but everything else is fine.

I had started to think it's because I have the Perrin Alternator, Crank and Water Pump Pulleys but I have not determined a cause yet.

This has happened twice now.

Anything underdrive or overdrive will affect your belt sizing. Minis had the same problem. There were too many pulley selections and everyone needed a different size belt according to their mods. Try not to fall into that trap. Additionally, belt sizes don't always cross over nicely between manufacturer's even if the part numbers match. Stuff like that definitely keeps my job interesting.

is it safe using the 69mm pulley with an intercooled 210 kit on standard engine? I have a full exhaust system with catless headers if that changes anything

also what engine oil specs are people running, and what is your justification for using that grade? I've tried searching the thread, but the search function is not very helpful with 296 pages

Before I touch on pulleys, how many of you have a raised redline?

Raised redlines AND smaller pulleys together are not healthy for blower longevity.

If you run a raised redline, use a larger drive pulley so you aren't overspinning the blower at high rpm.

As long as you are not spending all of your time hanging out at 7k rpm, you're ok on a smaller pulley. Smaller pulleys do require you to check your blower oil more frequently.

That's my configuration. I'm using Amsoil 5w30 signature, I chose to run this oil because my car has 87K+ and it is what is specified for the new WRX which is boosted from the factory. I haven't raised my redline, and don't run my car at the redline very often.

Those just pass straight through. In non-emissions applications, you can bypass it without issue. Just be sure to use a good barbed connector to attach the hoses together.
