370Z is, obviously, a bloated, hideous, pained-looking toad. Not in the same ballpark as the S2k, and does serve to make the 86 twins look mucho better-o in comparison.
Honda S 2000 curb weight 2840 lbs

Scion FRS weight curb weight 2758 lbs

What was that you said about bloat?

I think it looks great, the long hood on the 86 has always brought baby Aston martin images to mind.

better to be shoulder to shoulder with MB SLK, Z4, Miata

instead of Civic SI, Hyundai Veloster, kia forte

the biggest selling point of the miata has been its top down capabilities. i dont tihnk its any different now despite what the typical forum member wants.
Well fatoni, the RX-8 sold better than the NC MX-5. Especially for the first 4 years. If you average over a longer period of time the MX-5 sold consistently better.

So my instincts tell me a MX-8 would have sold even better, in theory anyway.

In the end I believe a convertible FRS is hardly going to steal the show but it might help boost sales for a longer period of time.

im not saying that the convertible frs is a bad idea. im just saying that a fixed coupe miata isnt going to be as significant as the few voiced we hear on these forums would make it seem.

Yuck... The only reason I didn't buy a Miata was because I think convertibles are kind of lame. The Miata can pull it off though, I don't think the FR-S can.

Park a stock FRS nose-to-nose with a stock S2000. The FR-S/BRZ front end is bloated in terms of height and cubic volume versus the S2000.

FWIW, early AP1s like mine are more like 2750 lb., but they did gain a bit over the years. CR without radio or ac also 2750.

Kudos to the FT86 twins for keeping the weight down. Still, it is a minor pity about the hoodline/front fenderline elevation vs. the original FT concept...

I think the only reason it's bigger than the concept was to pass safety tests for pedestrian collisions.

I guess we have different definitions of bloat. It should be noted that the FRS/BRZ is 1 inch wider and 4 inches longer. I think there is also a generational difference in design where modern sports cars (Aston Martin, Lambo, Ferrari, and some extent Porsche) have gone the lower wider look. The S 2000 is more of the Lotus Elan school of design with tighter body work. I've always liked the S 2000, very nearly bought one several times, but really wanted a hardtop. 6 speed manual is as smooth as they get.

Fake. Look at the truck lid. It is way way to long for that short deck.
