i did one with my spare key and didnt take any pics. it came out a little loose from where i missed up the pin hammering it back in. the key had a little bit of a wobble to it where it connected to the fob.
i wanted to do another one and take my time to get it right and tight also it would give me a chance to take pics and post up a DIY on here. i would have used my other key doing it so i would need a spare key in case i f'd something up. |

Just got my blank in from china. $10 shipped. Just gotta swing by the locksmith to get it cut. Excellent mod. It should have come this way from the start.

i saw those and like how they look but 1. do they come with a transponder and 2. they would probably have to be programmed. when i bought a spare key from the dealership, on the invoice it was $106 to have it programmed.

There are buttons there. They are just hidden under the leather to give a sleeker look. It still functionally seems to work well. Also, you would take the transponder from your current key. I don't think it is as hard as the O.P. makes it out to be.

Do you have to take the blank out of the ring to get it cut? Or can I just bring my blank (with the ring attached) to Home Depot or something and get it cut? I don't have any tools that I can use to do the trimming part so hopefully I can skip this part and still finish your DIY guide. |
