Race Report: Round 7 Buttonwillow

We return to Buttonwillow for the third time this year hoping for better weather. It was definitely dry but the temperature was set to Mordor with numbers soaring up to 115 degrees. Despite the heat, 22 participants raced and put down decent lap times. This round also saw a high adoption rate of GT Radial SX2 users with 19 cars running them! Even Mod class cars have an SX2 majority.

Shout out to our 86Drive Challenge brothers for driving down and racing with us! Please contact Garland to make sure that your points today are counted for GT Radial contingency.

Mod Class: Kevin Schweigert setting the fastest time of the day with 2:00.460, just shy of the coveted sub2! Mike Kang, who just came out of intensive care, taking 2nd place with 2:03.944 which is another SX2 record for Mod class. Jainish takes the last podium place with flat spotted tires at 2:11.598.

Street Class: Chaz Head with AT and driver mod do 2:08.407 to take the top spot on the podium. Ben Luu has broken into the 2:09.430 for his PB! Michael Greenberg closing out the Street Class podium with 2:10.688 and a split header. Mike Fink joins the fun with 2:11.720 and Scott continuously improving to get close to his PB with a 2:16.747

Stock Class: The biggest stock class field ever with 11 participants! Jeremy Yeung takes his first 86Cup win with a 2:08.869. Mikko is 0.23 seconds behind with a 2:09.103. Frank Alfaro continues his podium streak with 6 podiums out of his 6 races he’s entered this season, setting a 2:10.121. Andy takes 4th place as his car desperately needs an oil cooler and Silvio follows, getting used to a car with half the power compared to his Global Time Attack monster.

On behalf of 86Cup, we would like to thank everyone for your continued support of the series. The quest for driver development continues. See you in September as we return to Buttonwillow for the last time this year, again hoping for better weather!

86Cup Round 10 Results: Chuckwalla Valley Raceway CCW

The season finale of 2018 has produced another round of awesome racing! 19 drivers participated in a fully booked Chuckwalla Valley Raceway. Weather was good and the drivers are focused. Mod and Stock class titles were still on the line with runner-up places still to be decided across the board.

Despite the traffic, drivers showed improvement and was able to again beat all class records for the track!

Stock: Mikko Dycaico - 2:10.376 (yay!)
Street: Jerel Natividad – 2:04.791 (Paging Bob)
Mod: Vittorio Paolo Santiago – 2:03.054 (New challenger!)
Unlimited: Mike Kang – 1:59.607 (sub2 baby!)

86 Overall NA: Jerel Natividad – 2:04.791
86 Overall FI: Mike Kang – 1:59.607

As we conclude the 2018 season with a blast of a round, 86Cup is planning an awarding ceremony so we can recognize class championship winners, meet our sponsors and have a good time over good food. Something something Newcombs Ranch, or a similar location in the romantic LA canyons 😊

Thank you everyone who participated this year. Hope you all had fun and learned a few things about performance driving. We are finalizing rules and schedules for 2019 and should be released soon!

Thanks again and see you next year!

Maybe not the place to ask, but is there any talk of hosting an 86cup series in the northwest? Between the Ridge, Pacific Raceways, and PIR there are some decent tracks up here.

There hasn't been, but if someone is volunteering to organize one in that region, they'll get a lot of support from the other regions!

I can probably come down if its less than an 8-10h drive away from Montreal. (trailering farther would just be insane). I think a few tracks are within that range.
