OP, sorry to ask, but there's something bothering me. How exactly did you collide with the non-yielding vehicle?

Jesus, that's some PRETTY bad damage!! Glad you're okay! That's what's most important. Cars can be replaced, life can't.

Curious, though. If the car on the opposite lane facing you failed to yield left and hit you, how in the world did it damage the right side of your car so much?

Yup, well said.

Especially since the other party is at fault, they have to cover this. Assuming you're actually physically okay, you have your life and your money still. The worst that happens is you're inconvenienced.

Think of the silver lining. If you had any buyers' remorse, you can get a different car to cover the points that the BRZ disappointed you in, or you can get a 2016 BRZ which should be marginally better than the 2015, or even better yet you can wait a bit and get a 2017 BRZ which might have minor upgrades and a small facelift.

Well if the car is turning left in front of him and he swerve left to dodge, it would hit the front right of OP car. Would like to see other car though, that's a big hit.

Could a sideswipe really do that much damage though?

Yes.. It's physics, here's a small paint diagram by (someone who sucks at drawing and is using ms paint) pls don't judge lol

Not 100% accurate but it's my guess.

Feel free to correct me or chime in OP

Arrows are the velocity vectors, curved line with arrows are when cars are turning, springy lines is after collision estimation.

If you take in consideration the speed, I believe the hit is realistic. You have to think, OP was probably just cruising at a speed limit of 45 ( even 35 can do this damage probably). He's not going to think someone would turn left if you see someone coming but the other person did. By the time he saw, it'd be too late to brake to a stop, just reduce some speed maybe, and a slight turn to maybe get a scratch instead but this wasn't the case.

Glad you are alright OP. I hope insurance makes you whole. I'm assuming the other driver does not have insurance. Make sure you go get checked out by a doctor.

I was approaching and entering an intersection as the light turned yellow, there was a driver in the opposite lane facing me who had the same light. As I entered into the intersection, he decided to turn left, failing to yield right of way.

I tried to make an evasive maneuver to the best of my ability by maneuvering left and out of his way from my original path which was going straight and past the intersection since he was well into the intersection and directly in front of me. As a result instead of a head on collision, my front passenger/right side took most of the damage since I tried to avoid him. My car spun around as a result and was facing the opposite direction of my original travel

Im going to have to fill out one of those accident report things with the diagrams and drawings so this is a bit of a rough draft with what i described.

also the other car was an older minivan, both vehicles were deemed undrivable but if i remember correctly the damage on my car was far worse in appearance and function

i think the brz would take more damage on most days when colliding with a larger vehicle

thanks, this is very close to what happened. with the exception that after the collision it spun my car around into the opposite direction of my original direction of travel

i do appreciate that drawing, once i start feeling better ill have to fill out and draw out the accident report thing for the state

also the intersecting road was a narrower single lane road if i am remembering correctly so that made the intersection shorter which probably didn't help anything
