What I would really like is the Euro armrest with the Scion sliding hinges. Basically when in the forward position, the hinges would be hidden underneath. In the full rear position, it would slide between the two back seats as an armrest for the back. Then you could adjust anywhere inbetween.

It's funny - I bought the car last april, and i'd have killed for this for the first couple of months with the car.

I saw those larger ones that completely take over your console and didn't want to ditch all functionality by plugging the cup holders and the extra bit in front for storage. This would've been great.

BUT, it's almost 200 bucks, and after 11 months, I have gotten used to not having an armrest, so meh. It's neat though.

I don't have an issue with the console being hard, my issue is that i am so tall that my elbow is 1-2" above the upholders, and they just hang. This would fix that and be a great resting height, but for 200 bucks, i'll just stick to none. - Plus, weight reduction, lol.

Not to super necro this thread, but I just got done installing this armrest and it was a piece of cake. No more floating elbow, and much better posture (I'm old, and with only the left elbow on the door armrest it was putting a kink in my neck/shoulder). It seems Toyota actually measured the height of the door armrest and made sure the center armrest was the same height.

Cool

I find this purchase tempting, but doesn't everyone just rest their arm on the ebrake between shifts?

I thought about getting this arm rest a few months ago but then viewed the installation video. It's for a dealer install and shows the tech using a port drill fixture (template) and aluminum pop rivets to install the 2 brackets.

What did you use as a template and did you use aluminum pop rivets to install the brackets?

I have the JDM armrest which frankly looks a lot better, but you don't get the easy access to the cupholders.
Instead I use the cupholder in the door pocket.

I have the full coverage OEM armrest which is quite comfy (esp. with the JPM alcantara) but the storage is basically useless except when I'm stopped and contort to get it opened.

this is not as pretty but looks a lot more functional

The part as ordered comes with a paper template that you cut out and tape to the inside of the cup holder area. It gives you a guide for the first two holes to drill, and then you use the rails for the remaining holes. There's also another part of the paper template for the rear cover holes that are drilled using a different size bit.

It came with pop rivets that are plastic with aluminum shafts.

I agree with everyone's sentiment about the looks of this part vs. all the others, but as often as I use the center cup holders and storage, the function won out over form for me.

Has anyone figured out a method of locking this armrest in place? Every 1-2 shift and 3-4 shift it ends up sliding backward on me.

The rails could probably be modified to accommodate a locking pin. I too wouldn't mind being able to lock it when I want to. Will have to do some research to see how feasible that would be.
