It's a concept thing. There's no way it's only going to be 45.6 inches high in production form. Think of it like the overly stylistic Scion FRS concept.

We can't tell anything concrete from the reveal except general styling cues and it'll be a new sky-active rotary. Everything else is a guess.

Ahaha I love the 6 rotor idea to explain the long hood.

Fingers crossed for something meaningful for the Cosmo 50th anniversary, like a production announcement and a plebian price point.

The concept car is overdone IMO, but that's ok if the production car will be dialed back (as they usually are). The proportions look good for weight distribution, might even be slightly rear-biased.

Very long wheelbase though at 106". Basically a lower, wider C6 Corvette in terms of dimensions. Ideally I'd want it to be 9/10ths scale, but we'll see.

Interesting q&a at the end of the article. Possible performance target: Cayman (but lighter). Turbo possibilities.

I have a strong feeling it'll never see production.

Damn, that might make it really expensive.

Hopefully it's in-line with the 370Z price range if it made it to production.

I like that Mazda would be targeting Cayman performance, but lighter. He also hints that the production version may be smaller than the concept.

This could theoretically be about the size and weight of the Twins, but with 280-300 hp. Basically the car everyone claims to want. Hopefully doesn't include a Cayman-like price tag.

Yup. I think they can do it for less money than a Cayman, and more than a BRZ. There's plenty of room there. Something like $38k base up to < $50k fully loaded.

Sounds like where it ends up in the market is entirely dependent on if they can make a Porsche fighter, if they can get 270+ crank hp out of a rotary expect it to be >$40k and running a comparison against the Alfa 4C, Cayman and even base Corvette.

Curious that he speculates it could sit UNDER the RX-8, the RX-8 was barely under the 350Z/370Z, max price was $32k only 4 years ago when production stopped, 86's have been sold for more money at greedy dealerships. That would only point to a Miata coupe, drop a little rotary in the MX-5 change as little as possible and put a roof on it and they'd still struggle to turn a profit at $30k I'd bet. Realistically probably somewhere in the middle, the engine will be a nice upgrade from the Renesis while the peak figures aren't impressive (just like the ND) somewhere in the 230-260 crank hp range that will get benchracers up in arms ($35k-$40k for less horsepower than a STOCK Mustang Ecoboost! What a ripoff!) but hopefully as light or lighter than an 86. So bang on what the RX-8 was.

And the comment about RX-7 being 2 seater and RX-8 being a 4 seater is dumb, the RX-2 and RX-3 came in a 4 door and the RX-4 came in wagon form (I bet more than a few carried 6+ people at least once), the RX-7 should have been a fucking van by that logic and the RX-8 a bus.

bah, tl;dr stretched ND chassis just like the NC/RX-8 combo and if they can make a Cayman fighter they will but still have the option to play in the $30k realm.

Edit: Sounds like they'll revive the RX-7 nameplate, personally wish they would go to 9 to signify a step forward but oh well, minor disagreements.

Heh, maybe they'll go fill in the gap with RX-5 and 6...
