Why would the STi have major engine issues when the 15MY is still using the old EJ motor, or did they change something else major?

Many older STi's suffered from ring land failure, Subaru simply didn't fix the actual weak part inside motor, they kept changing factory tunes only, with MY2015 my guess is that the factory tune is worse.

Subaru should have waited for a tuned FA20DIT to be ready before bringing out a new WRX STI. Guess the money changers wouldn't let them.

they all are going to handle very well. so well that our normal DD/weekend track warriors wont make any difference in driving it.

Another thing, we test drove WRX automatic w/paddle shifters, and omg, that is so much fun, like in the video game.
BRZ was full manual, unless you are turning a lot during your commute, the car is not fun.

I was in a similar boat and still went with the BRZ. The Wrx will compensate for bad driving habits, whereas the BRZ will punish those same habits, teaching you to become a better driver. With a set of snow tires, the BRZ is better in the snow than the Wrx with stock tires. And let's be honest, turbo cars are not fun for DD duty. My stock BRZ is more fun to drive at 35 mph than my Sti was at 70 on the same roads.

Also worth noting, if you want a wrx with heated leather+suede seats w/ push button start like you get in the BRZ limited ($25k), you're spending $34k...

You're comparing what you could pay for a BRZ Limited to the WRX MSRP... Not quite a fair comparison when talking about money

Picked up my WRX this past weekend. I still have my BRZ. Owning both, here's my initial quick impressions to share:


WRX = Grip for days. Torque torque torque (but oh god turbo lag). The obvious practicality of the car with the fun mixed in really makes it a sublime DD. I loved driving the BRZ everyday, but I'm more than happy to live with the WRX. Now choosing between the two from only a DD standpoint? Sorry, can't decide.


BRZ = More fun/ better driving experience. Everything in the car still feels more immediate. Cant beat RWD for fun, even when not pushing the car to its limits. Far better seats and driving position, but the WRX steering wheel is a lot better (the actual wheel, not the steering feel mind you). Can REALLY feel the difference in braking and cornering with the weight difference between the two cars.


Price wise, I paid around 32.5k OTD for a BRZ Limited AT and 36k OTD for a WRX Limited CVT w/ Navi/HarmonKardon/Keyless.

Which is a thicker steering wheel, WRX or TRD?

Me I can't stand turbo lag on hot summer days, but low end torque is great for everyday traffic. I'm curious about the feel of CVT compare to DSG.

Not that it's perfect, but "lag" wasn't really something that came to mind when I test drove the 2015 WRX.

It's definitely a more linear powerband than previous years.

First off, the WRX is not gonna save your ass for bad driving habits. No BRZ is gonna beat a WRX AWD with the same snow tires in the winter time. I live in Fairbanks Alaska and my friends with FRS needs studded tires as where I only need Blizzaks. No FRS/BRZ is gonna go through thick snow like a WRX, PERIOD. It is not gonna go through a non paved road up here for sure, I can promise you that. Turbo cars are not fun DD, you must be kidding. 265 hps AWD is not fun? Ok. Don't even start with BRZ limited with $25k, its way much more then that. Same price as a WRX Premium. Push start and all the other nonsense is only 2k more. No WRX comes out to $34k even with the limited trim and Audio/push start package. $34k is already STi territory. I think you better do some more research first guy.
