For the record, my 2008 xB came set on the "tC" setting as well...I think that's just the default for everything.

Here is the instruction for changing the Car Type (from p.52 of the manual):
To display the SETUP menu, press
and hold the MULTI KNOB while
the power is in "OFF" position.
When the MULTI KNOB is turned,
the setting item of the SETUP
menu will switch in the following
order:

SUB-W CTRL, OPENING, CAR TYPE

CAR TYPE:
A menu for setting up the vehicle
type.
When the MULTI KNOB is
pressed, switches in the following
order:

TC , XB, XD,IQ, FR-S

After you press the MULTIKNOB 4 times, it should look like this:
Attachment 7926

For those who have the base audio in their FR-S, you may want to check this setting.

Note: I haven't compare the differences between different Car Type, but base on my experience of owning a 1st gen tC, a correct Car Type always sounds the best. You may found another Car Type sounds better, so feel free to play with it.
Tc sounds so much better than FRS in our head unit. I had mine set to TC, changed it to frs, and immediately went back to tc

Pretty much, but that's not uncommon for OEM radios.

Had mine set to TC but didn't like it. Set it to FRS and fiddled with settings for a while and got it to a pretty good level.

This junkyard has a 2014 Tc , you guys think it's worth it if I replace that with my current 2013 base head unit?

I've been pretty happy with the 2014 Pioneer/NAV unit I installed in mine. I can't tell a lot of difference in the sound but the functionality is better.

Then again, I'm not a good judge of the sound quality.

How do I access this car selection panel on the bespoke lcd layout versus the basic head Unit?

when I had my OEM Audio + installed, they recommended the tC setting over FRS. And like a few of you, I toggles between FRS and tC. tC definitely sounds better.

For an audiophile.. that setting change was a NIGHT and DAY difference. Music actually makes sense now.

I use the IQ setting in my XB and set it to feel the bass. Sounds better than the XB and TC setting.

tC is the best! Too bad they discontinued it.
