86/BRZ vs Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV

Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV

86/BRZ

I mentioned this a few times on the thread already but wanted to create a thread, I feel our twins measures to this beautiful Italian classic coupe a lot more than the Miata/S2K and feel it's an modern take at the concept.

Actually, try the Alfa GTV6 from the 80's.

Size, weight, engine power handling balance....remarkably close.

How do I know? Owned both from new.

Let's hope the twins don't dissolve as fast. I was an Alfa dealer tech back in the 80s, and they were great cars to drive, but man they rusted fast. I also owned a '78 Alfetta GT, which I think the twins might even be closer related to...less guts, but even better balanced than the GTV6..

Yup. That's exactly why I bought an 86.
So much like the GTV2000 it's scary.

Here's the only picture I have of my old one with rust in every body panel.

Drove it for 7 years back in the 80's before I got tired of the stiff clutch.
I like the 86 clutch much better.

Ok. I confess.
I really won't come to terms with people who insist that the 86 has to have
MO POWAH!
eh.

It goes up the narrow contorted passes that I enjoy traversing.
The contortions in the geological remains, earth vs. void to the side.
Then descends with aplomb.

Ahhhh
It's magical.

$250K for (an admittedly top-shelf) GTV seems a lot like they're trying to jump on the Singer bandwagon...

Companies have been doing these kind of turnkey solutions long before Singer. There's no bandwagon, it's just a service.

It's not the service I'm referencing - it's the astronomical sums of money they want. A stroked twinspark motor into a GTV isn't exactly groundbreaking territory, no matter how nicely finished the car. Same lines as Singer - I love their product, but the price is kind of ridiculous. I only think they're able to get those numbers because they've created a niche market where there's really not much/any competition right now, at least at the level of finish they offer.
