Next time one of those old cudgers gives you a hard time about modifying your car, ask them if they ever: * hung anything from their rear view mirror * had "flipper" or "moon" hubcaps * put "skirts" on their car * had a "spinner" on the steering wheel * put lowering blocks under the rear springs * heated the front coil springs (to lower the car) * burned out glasspacked mufflers before installing * installed glass packs backwards (intentionally) * put on "port-a-walls" * reversed the wheel rims * drilled out the jets in their carburetor * ran without the air cleaner * milled a head * added a vacuum gauge to the gauge cluster * added a tachometer * installed "blue dot" tail lights * installed a "ugga-horn" * put a "rake" on a car (lowering the front end only) * added a "spotlight" * pulled out the choke, while driving through a burger place (made any car sound like it had a "cam") * colored lights in the grill * installed a "bar" grill * added a reveberator along with a rear speaker * added a "cut out" to the exhaust pipe * added traction masters (to a car with a powerglide transmission) * and we can't forget the "fuzzy dice" Just ask-em .... that outta shut em down ..... humfrz |

That happens a lot, just before I struggle to climb out of my FR-S, and the folks get a look at what's left of my short, gray hair, while peering over my tri-focals and adjusting my suspenders. Oh, BTW, I'm not dead ...... just last week, my Doctor said I still have blood pressure and a pulse. Where is old @whaap for this discussion, we need an opinion from one of our "seniors" ..... It's all good ...... humfrz Last edited by humfrz; 11-13-2013 at 09:17 PM. |

I was driving home today and my car just felt fast as hell. I loved it. After reading about the new 458 special I really wonder what this engine would be like with the same 14:1 compression and a slightly raised 8k redline... Please cosworth, make this occur. This car is/should be N/A, let's just build off a good thing.

On the other hand, the FA20 has proven to respond well to boost so far, and a small twin scroll turbo would have minimal (insignificant) turbo lag. Just gotta figure out how to reduce the heatsoak enough to be minimal too... |

Sraight line acceleration isn't boring, and there is some thrill to stomping the gas and running to redline through the gears... but it doesn't compare to carving through corners. You still get to enjoy straight line accel during corner exit and up until you have to get on the brakes for the next turn... but the experience is much more dynamic. When to start braking, how hard to brake, heal/toe, proper gear selection, correct driving line, throttle modulation during cornering, when/where to go WOT during corner exit, etc. There's a reason why games like Gran Turismo are popular, and why there aren't any successful racing games that have you running down a drag strip over and over.

I love the handling of this car and all.. But to say there is no value in straight line accel.. Is just ignorant and wrong.. The only reason I went to a slower performance car was purely one of economics... Not because straight line speed is boring or worthless as some are trying to believe.. |

If acceleration is that important to you, you could sell the FR-S and buy an LS1 F-body that's about 1.5 seconds quicker and 13mph faster in the 1/4, and have plenty of cash left over to offset the increase in fuel cost for many years to come! |

To each his own, though. Some people enjoy drifting the car more than they do trying to make fast lap times. Some people enjoy straight line accel. Neither option is wrong, just different. And some people enjoy doing all 3 (like me)
