Fun facts from a Subaru dealership in Newcastle today

Got some fun facts from the sales lady:

  • Cars are now apparently being built 8:1 Subaru:Toyota
  • Differences between the 86 and BRZ are bumper, suspension and .....brakes????
  • Lead time for an 86 is now 22 months or 26, can't remember which
  • Ancap safety rating applies only to the BRZ, not the 86

She then proceeded to ask if we really wanted to buy or were just dreaming...

I honestly wonder how she manages to sell anything.

I know GTS has bigger, ventilated brakes compared to the GT
Don't know how this carries between the brz, gt and gts

The brakes on the brz are actually marginally larger than on the GTS, its on a comparison somwhere. But ANCAP has been done on both cars and the same rating has been given to both... So sounds like exageration and BS, as usual lol

This is probably specific to the Subaru plant, FHI, which makes more than the 86 and BRZ. They produce a lot of Subarus including the Legacy, Impreza, WRX STI, Forester, etc. so the 8:1 Subaru:Toyota stat is meaningless. Ask her how many BRZs vs 86/FR-S...

Same story for me at Subaru Newcastle
Was told that I should order a BRZ because there were 9x more BRZs than 86s being imported
I made one attempt to correct them, but gave up
That bombshell was followed by a myriad of other idiotic statements
Needless to say, I went for the exit ASAP

BRZ over 86 production split highly unlikely considering Toyota owns almost 20% of Subaru !!

Some things should never be trusted--including information from Salespeople. They are there to sell you the car, not to get the facts right.

Two things I would of done, if someone said that to me, either grab the next salesperson and do the deal right in front of them.

or go to another dealer, buy it then when you get it drive it there and stick it to the bitch

lol at "Ancap safety rating applies only to the BRZ, not the 86"

They are the same car with the same safety features and everything...

Yes the BRZ was only tested but it surely doesn't make it not the same safety... just doesn't have a pretty 5 start on it as it wasn't tested.

Thanks for sharing ADAMC.
And I thought those I spoke to were a little short on information.
I laughed a lot.
