From the MT article:

As I enthusiastically revved the BRZ's 2.0-liter, 200-hp flat-four up to 5500 rpm, or about 2000 rpm shy of redline, I dropped the clutch, and, unlike any Subaru before, the tiny coupe lit up its rear tires as if they were Ground Bloom Flowers on July 4th.
Also I know this has been discussed but I noticed:
TOP-GEAR REVS @ 60 MPH 2650 rpm

Confirms the poor highway efficiency, with nearly 3000 rpms at crusin speed =\

Dang, 5500 rpm clutch drop? Yeah that no way represents a real world figure. So really this is a high 6/low 7 sec car.

I still don't think this is going to be a low 6sec car. More like 6.9-7.1.

very disappointed that the mags still haven't gotten the chance to drive the car on their own. interest of driving at the track like in the last round of articles they did it in france under the supervision of the subaru nannies. we won't get the full truth until they get the car on their own and take it to where they want to do their tests.

same as before though...everything seems promising.

not sure where some purple learned to drive stick either. a 2-3 shift doesn't take a full second. maybe it could hit 7 flat without the shift but no way it gets to even mid 6s much less 6 seconds.

Thats a function of the 4.1 rear end. Same issue as the RX8, as I cruise at 70mph at close to 3,300rpm. Its the sacrifice to get a better 0-60 time at the cost of cruising mileage. Drop a 3.88 rear end in the car and your prolly talking 33-35mpg on the highway.

Huh? Motor Trend had the car at El Toro in California. They flogged the hell out of the car.

Tires do look a bit skinny in that video - not much better than my 195s....

Yes. Definitely wish it was geared a little taller at the top end, but again the lack of torque would make acceleration in 6th unbearable. My current ride revs at about the same to make 60 and its only a 5 speed.

The real world figure (no clutch drop) is going to be in the 8s.

Automobile Magazine's "just under 7 seconds" could be because they're driving a Euro "base" version with 3.727 diff that will let them hit 64mph or so.

That, or they assumed that 60 on the speedo was actually 60, while external measurements read less forcing them to shift into 3rd for the real 60mph.

Another article wrote that a 2nd shift is required to go over 59 to achieve true "60" speed. Thats a half second just for shifting if not more. 6.5 seems about right for 0-59. And lets be real. 59 is 60

So is April 20th the definitive shipping date? If so, that's awesome! Everyone should get their cars starting the first week of may!

I have driven manual cars my whole life, never owned an auto. I personally never use 6th gear to pass a car/accelerate. I always just drop it down into 5th. I know people are "lazy" but I would rather have a longer 6th gear for better highway cruising (#1 engine noise and #2 mpgs). Hopefully it won't be to hard to put a longer 6th gear in ourselves.

It might take longer than the first week of May? Just thinking about the time crossing the Pacific. Then getting to port and going through customs. Then any port installed accessories. Then having to get checked out by who ever makes sure the car made it through transport ok. Then getting loaded on a train/truck. Then getting shipped to another terminal. And then eventually to the dealer. From shipping to dealer, I would expect around 4 weeks if no delays. That was my experience with my '12 Impreza.
