Turbo Whistle v. Blower Whine
Well, with the multitude of TC and SC kits coming out, I thought now would be a good time to survey the forums and see which forced aspiration SOUND you like better! Be completely objective about this one and forget about every other aspect of each FI system, and focus on sound. What do you like better, a clean and smooth turbo whistle and BOV sound, or a nice, smooth blower whine?
I can't stand turbo whistle for more than 5 minutes, it sounds cool but gives me a headache after a while. But a supercharger whine? I could listen to that all day long. What do you guys prefer? |

you only get a whine out of a twin-screw style SC so this poll isn't accurate.

i believe that stillen does Roots style superchargers and centrifugals, my buddy has a stillen kit and its definitely positive displacement. needs a hood scoop even. and roots and twin screws produce a whine the same as a centrifugal. prochargers are the loudest that i've heard however.

I hate whiners.....so it goes to say that I hate supercharger whine. I'd much rather listen to the sweet sound of a turbocharger spooling. I don't really need to hear the blow-off valve though. That can get tiring rather quickly. Thankfully, not all BOFs are obnoxious as the typical cough/fart/sneeze ones that the ricers love to install.

A centrifugal blower doesn't make anything like the whiney sound you get from a twin-screw blower. I'm not saying it's silent, I'm just saying it's a completely different sound. I don't find a centrifugal blower offensive at all. I can't stand the constant crappy whine you get from your basic Kenny Bell twin-screws though.

Love the sound of a Dual BB turbo. S/C sounds like the belt is about to break.

I had twin turbo in my RX-7.
I have a supercharge in my Exige S. Now I want a turbo in my FR-S. I love both but because I have to make a choice here for the poll, I will take the turbo over the supercharge. Supercharge sounds like if a bird or a child was crying and turbo sounds like everything is going to explode soon or later hahaha. Take this with a grain of salt.

I prefer the sound of a positive displacement blower... Roots style in particular. The twin screws are more efficient, but on pure sound, roots. Hands down. I find centrifugal superchargers have more of a whistle than a whine.
This centri sounds mean though: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiaeFFDPbW4"]240z with a SUPERCHARGED vette engine - YouTube[/ame] Turbos sound good too. I've had some wheel time in my buddy's '87 turbo Regal, and love to listen to it spool up.

Back in the day, they used to have Buick/Grand National night at Englishtown's Raceway Park. Quite possibly the coolest sound ever was listening to two Grand Nats spooling up as they loaded the engine to launch the cars.

Roddy, that video changed my life. EPIC. I enjoyed it a lot
I prefer turbo. Anyone that heard my GT3076r spooling said it was the best sounding turbo! |
