A/C running warm.

Temps are getting to the point where I'm needing the AC but mine has been running a tad warmer even on full blast.

I'm consider trying the A/C Pro refill canisters, does anyone have experience with them? I'd rather skip maintenance costs at the dealer if possible.
Thanks

Well, no experience with them.

However, if your A/C isn't cooling properly, there is a good chance it's low on refrigerant.

If it's low on refrigerant ....... it must have a leak.

Do you have the equipment and knowledge to test for leaks? Do you know how to evacuate the system?

If not, there is a good chance you may wreck up the compressor by monkeying around with it.

I'd recommend that you take your car to a shop that knows how to properly check the system and refill with refrigerant.

Bubba says to be sure you have punched the recirc button .....

How about a second opinion from @Ultramaroon ......

Thanks

You can start with a can or two of refrigerant from Autozone or the like. Just make sure to get the hose with the gauge on it. Also follow the instructions to the letter. Its easy but if you skip a step or misinterpret it may not work that great. Do not get the ones that have sealant in them, oil is OK. The ones with the sealant could clog up the very small passages in the ac system and make things worse. Also, the hose only fits on one inlet, if you have to force it on that is the wrong one.

After you charge it up and you notice after a couple weeks it starts getting warm again just take it to a mechanic. Its just not worth charging it every couple weeks. They will do a leak down test and should be able to find the leak then go from there.

I had a car that i would need a can at the beginning of every summer. There was a very tiny leak somewhere but it was an old car at the time and spending a few bucks for a an a/c to last the summer was fine.

I cringe at the idea of trying to service an air conditioning system without the proper tools and/or materials. Leave that to a pro. You can kill your compressor by throwing a can of refrigerant at the system without knowing exactly what you're doing.

Canada banned the self service of a/c decades ago. We can't even buy the recharge kits. I can't even imagine how many tons of freon are released each by people that don't have a clue what they are doing.

I have done pretty much every repair you can do to a car but there are two things I just won't touch one is glass the other is a/c. Both are just a pain in the ass.

On the flip side, I could get some decent tools for the labor cost of a couple properly-done compressor swaps. That includes the reclamation tools and vacuum pump.

You know that's the direction I'll go when the time comes.

Thanks for the replies guys. It seems to be doing a little better after the first couple days. Maybe the system needed to fully circulate.

I would highly recommend not putting cans of anything in your vehicle. I do AC work all the time and you wouldn't believe how many I get in with the customer stating "AC Warm/Inop".. I'll hook up a machine and find they refilled it themselves and way overcharged it (even with gauges). Either locking up the compressor or the system will shut itself off due to high pressure.

Also, lots of those cans have stop leak in them. NEVER use stop leak. It can clog up your system and can be very expensive for you in the long run. It may stop the leak, but also can stop your system!

And cloggs up and ruins our AC machines in the shop too... Don't do that to us!
