Not to mention all the buyers of their product who thought they were buying a clean running, high mpg, diesel with good performance that will now have to choose between taking their car in for the fix and loosing performance and mpg or remaining a gross polluter.

IMO, VW should have to buy back all those cars of the customers who feel defrauded and make the request.

I'd like to see VW sued into oblivion and banned from selling cars in all applicable markets for 10 years.

You sir have a heavy gavel!

Other nonsense manufacturers have pulled:

GM classifies the PT Cruiser as a light truck so it doesn't have to meet the same emissions as passenger cars (and it sure doesn't).

GM killed 124 people with ignition switches they knew would result in fatalities.

Takata: Don't worry our airbags only kill and maim some people!

Toyota: Lost over a billion dollars because of "unintended acceleration" that was proven, after exhaustive investigation, to be false and in 100% of the fatalities where it was thought to be a failure of the car it was a failure of the driver. So Toyota got punished by shitty drivers, essentially.

Anywho.. I say we require VW to pay for that wall that Trump wants to build.

But seriously, it stands to reason that anyone pursuing legal action against VW for being defrauded most likely have a case.

If VW only has to pay for that wall, then VW is in a good situation. In his 60 minutes interview, Trump said not only will the wall look good and work, but it will cost peanuts!

This thread

So, what's the impact going to be to the consumer? No ifs, hypotheticals, morality. The guy who owns a '13 Jetta Sportwagen TDI, what happens to him?

2 options I see:
A. Exemption or special emissions for the life of the vehicle in the places where it matters, as posted earlier automotive pollutants are a drop in the bucket in the crap pumped out by mankind daily, especially a small fraction of the automobiles on the road. Unlikely but possible, and there are places that don't give two shits about emissions, I suppose owners in those locations will conveniently ignore any changes and keep getting that 40+ mpg.
B. VW 'corrects' the issue, ECU reflashes across the board to the clean burn mode, I assume mpg drops with the fix (which, well, how clean is it really if your contaminants per volume are down, but volume used is up? Of course that will be a factor), VW re-imburses customers per Hyundai in terms of lost economy over the vehicle's life. Probably most likely given that the EPA/CARB/EU seem to like doing things the hard way.

Edit: As said before, newfound respect for Mazda working so hard on their Diesel, makes more sense now, they were likely trying to match TDI legitimately, no wonder they struggled.

Article mentions how Bosch knew in 2007 and warned VW about it, yet did nothing.

I mean the person not the car company lol. Nikola Tesla the inventor who was researching into a new way to generate energy and was financially backed by JP Morgan until Morgan found out he planned/wanted to make this source of energy free. Basically bringing the downfall of one of the greatest minds ever, a man much ahead of his time.

(Imagine if he were alive today with our technology, we're talking about a very peculiar man who sleeps 2-3 hours a day, never had sex because he viewed this and social interaction as distractions, a photographic memory and vision).

Yes I have a man-crush on Nikola Tesla.

No it's not as bad. Diesel engines produce considerably more NOx emissions than gasoline engines. If your gasoline engine is putting out a lot of NOx emissions something is seriously wrong and it's probably knocking left and right.

NOx emissions cause acid rain and smog.

Yes I have a man-crush on Nikola Tesla.
Not to mention he wanted to send electricity wireless throughout the world..
