Hit n run!

Was involved in an accident, hit n run outside my store. Ended up getting plates and guy is in custody. He backed into the. Driver side door and cracked my left mirror. I feel like pdr will work but will not be perfect. Should I just have the door replaced?

Pdr doesn't seem like it would work. It looks like some scratches ate the clear coat. The door push in is around where we have the motor for window. I say get new door.

And damn! Same happened to me but just hit passenger door at barely any movement. I just polished scratches out.

I have full coverage but deductible is 1k. U think new door and side mirror will cost more or less 1k? Thanks for the quick response

Probably more. Painting it isn't cheap.

Get as much out of that bastard for all of us that weren't able to capture our offending hit and run arseholes!

I'd say get a new door with matching paint along with trying to recover reduced vehicle value from this piece of crap driver. Where I got hit in a hit and run I got a knock on my Carfax which eliminated my eligibility to get Subaru's guaranteed trade in value.

Good luck, and hope you can make an example of this piece of trash!

There are 253 million cars in the US. Sometimes people screw up and hit one. They may not have even know they did it. Not all are evil.

I guess its possible; but in my case my car was shifted about 2ft from its original parking spot and the jerk obviously fled as witnesses saw the guy plow the front corner of his conversion van into my car... They just weren't able to get the plates.

In this case I'd say the guy had to know he hit something. I've barely tapped a car backing up and knew I'd hit it. Hopped out, noticed no damage and still left a note incase the owner discovered any unseen issue (such as hatch not opening correctly etc).

I can't say I've ever been in any accident at any level where I didn't know it happened. Perhaps an elderly person could be in that position, but in a majority of hit and runs they are exactly what they are: A person tries to flee responsibility for making a mistake leaving a completely innocent party left having to deal with the problem by themselves financially and mentally. If a hit and run offender can be proven by evidence I'd say that it should be punishable by loss of license for a year or more.

I realize accidents happen, but if someone can't step up and take responsibility then they are essentially a inconsiderate piece of crap!

If they are so oblivious to their surroundings while operating a vehicle, they deserve a severe punishment

Why are you talking about your insurance, their insurance should be paying for it... unless they don't have any.

Far too often the case. Especially in a hit and run.

Lucky you were able to get the plate. Were you outside witnessing it? Someone else see it? Hope he has insurance.

My advice, based on my experience, is to have the dent pulled, filled and painted.

The shop might want to put a new door on, but what you need to know is that they will have to transfer the guts of your old door to the new shell. They make more money this way and you get the impresson that you are getting a better repair.

However:

Level of rust protection might not be the same on replacement door.
Mine has had increased wind noise since the new door went in.
Have returned to the body shop time and again until we cant stand each other, tying to get the window adjusted.

The factory has a very detailed method and QA checked process for assembling a door and there are checks along the way to make sure it was done right. The body shop has one harried employee who has never seen an FRS and is trying to figure out where all the loose screws go back. Hint: He don't really care either.

I have actually considered sourcing a used Raven door off of a wreck if I come across one.

Usually if they flee they don't have insurance.
