NJ Inspection Questions

Does anybody know whether an aftermarket steering wheel with no airbag can pass a NJ state inspection? Thanks

Yeah but they have to get in to drive the car and they can't miss the steering wheel.

Still, I wouldn't think they "cared" anymore. If it passes emissions, it passes inspection, right?

Look at this way, your Chiropracter isn't going to say anything if you show up chewing on Jolly Ranchers. He's just going to adjust your back and smile.

edit: that's a terrible analogy.

Yeah, that analogy is pretty bad .

I believe it fails. However, the airbag light being on does not fail.

However, you get a 5 year exemption from inspection with a new car purchase in NJ. At the end, you come in and they do a 1 year extension. The last time I went in they didn't even ask me to get out of the car.

Unfortunately its not for the FR-S so it requires inspection every 2 years.

No, if your car was equipped with an airbag, as all new cars are mandated, you cannot remove it.

Not sure what you mean. My FR-S's inspection stickers expire in 2018.

New Car 5 years. then every 2 years.

as long as no CEL, you should be able to pass inspection.
Don't go to DMV site for inspection. get it done at gas station that does inspection.

I miss NJ already. Those 5 year stickers and not being forced to pay for inspections will be sorely missed. I moved to LI a few months ago and should be picking up my BRZ within the week. I'm totally dreading having to get, and pay for a new car to be inspected every year. Not to mention that rotten registration sticker taking up half my windsheild. That is when it actually sticks to the windshield! What is the point of that, really? You can't read the stupid thing unless you're already pulled over. Why not just have a card like everyone else? What, are NY cops to busy to ask for licence and registration? Next thing you know I'll have to duct tape my licence up there, too.

I've been contemplating keeping my NJ license and using my Mother's address in NJ, but that's probably more of a hassle in the long run. I just can't seem to convert to a "New Yorker", though. I hate it here!

They put the sticker on the windsheild because they are color coded. Any cop who is paying attention can spot an out of date sticker by just the color. Then he has the opportunity to pull you over and mess with you if he feels the need.

No, I know they do that for inspection. That makes sense as the sticker is the only proof that it passed/failed. I'm talking about the registration. In NY they actually make you tape your registration to the windshield right next to the inspection sticker.

And I just asked a real New Yorker, they have cards, too. Dumb.
