FRS with 15th Anniversary 97 Supra

Thought you might like to see some side by sides. Sorry these are iPhone shots. This is a 1997 15th Anniversary Supra. The stripes are aftermarket.

Why do people always feel the urge to put stickers or stripes on their car. It Makes it look so ugly

It really gives a sense of how cars have grown over the years (physically). The Supra was a big car back then (and a bit heavy) but it's close in size to the FR-S. Modern car building tech is impressive.

some cars like mini cooper go fine with stripes
not my style but I'm open to it

been VERY curious to see a tasteful stripe on a BRZ/FRS

It's so funny, I always think of the MKIV Supra as being an absolute pig of a car, but it doesn't seem that much larger dimensionally than the FR-S. I can tell it's been lowered so that might skew it a little, but damn why does it have to be 3,400lbs? The sad thing is that 3,400lbs is hardly even that heavy anymore by today's standards. It does drive like a big car, though. Oh well, too rich for my blood anyways.

So here are the stock dimensional specifications (Added to first post):

Supra:
  • Width: 71.3 in
  • Height: 49.8 in
  • Length: 177.8 in
  • Curb weight: 3461 lbs
  • Wheel base: 100.4 in
FRS:
  • Width 69.9 in
  • Height 50.6 in
  • Length 166.7 in
  • Curb weight: 2758 lbs
  • Wheelbase101.2 in
So Really the Supra is close to 1.5 inches wider. Basically 11 inches longer, and quite a bit heavier. It is actually only half an inch longer than my s14, but still wider and heavier.

Man, that is amazing. I've seen many Supras up close, but everytime I see one in a picture or online, I always assume they are huge! Then I'm always put in my place when I see one IRL or next to a car I can use as a reference. For the longest time I always thought they were the size of a Monte Carlo or something.

Well they are huge when you compare them to other sports cars from that era. The SW20 MR2 and FD3S RX-7 are dwarfed by the Supra, Z32 300ZX, or 3000GT. Yet if you park any one of those beasts next to a new Camaro or Challenger, they look tiny themselves! Cars just get bigger and bigger. One memory that really sticks in my mind was when I saw a 1989 Maxima parked next to a 1995 Maxima, parked next to a 2006 Altima. The Altima was bigger than the Maximas! The '89 Maxima is the same size as the modern Sentra, for cryin' out loud.
