Blue Smoke
So I started my FRS this afternoon after about 17 hours of letting it sit overnight. It puffed out a plume of blue smoke. First thing I thought of were either piston rings or valve seats. It only has 60k on her and I am not seeing this issue with any other owners. The oil has about 2800 on it and I strictly change it every 3k with full synthetic Mobil 1 0w-20, I also did drive the car extensively and spiritedly yesterday. This is the second time I've noticed this, and the last time was about two months ago with a very small amount of smoke. My friend was also chasing me over the weekend and stated he saw a puff of black/blue smoke when I downshifted or accelerated quickly, and I also saw a cloud of something in my rearview while accelerating near 5k. Could my CAI be causing issues with the PCV system? Maybe its sucking oil through the throttle body. Its still under powertrain but I wanted to ask you guys before i take it to the dealership.

Injen cold air intake and ISR exhaust, I have put about 10k on the car since having added those modifications.

Blue Smoke = burning oil
Thick White Smoke = burning coolant Some white smoke = vapor Black smoke = too much fuel

Any CELs .. ??
Sounds like it is just running rich at times. You may consider cleaning the MAF. humfrz |

The CEL has never illuminated in my car so far, I haven't cleaned my MAF sensor, but I do have that on my agenda. I've cleaned the throttle body twice so far to improve my idle but I am not having any drivability issues. I highly doubt that the smoke is fuel related.

In general most aftermarket intakes will throw off the fueling if the maf scaling in the tune is not adjusted.
the grimspeed intake and the misimoto intake seem to be the closet to stock maf scaling and are generally ok on stock maf scaling. The stock tune runs quite rich at upper rpm heavy load so the black smoke is likely fueling, and might be worse due effects of aftermarket intake if not tuned. as you said maybe a pcv has failed and your letting oil into intake that way hopefully thats the white smoke as the other guy said check your coolant level, hopefully it not using coolant. check you have no exhaust leaks near or before the 02 sensors as this can cause fueliung issues assume oil is not overfilled ? if it all looks ok, put it back to stock and let the dealer look at it if its under warantee |

Hmm, might be gross but if it happens again at startup just take a smell. I'm thinking it's rich, startup it runs rich and more gas when you get on it. leaking injector or bad plugs. Also dirty throttle body maybe EGR issue. You have a techstream to do live monitoring? Guessing on here is easy.

tldr you'd be one of the first burning enough oil to cause noticeable blue smoke. I'd send the oil in for analysis, put the oe intake back to stock and if you can replicate it consistently take it to the dealership.
About the only thing I can think of that would be easy solution would be the same as mentioned above, over filling could cause this, the dipstick is weird to read and due to the quirks I could easily see someone overfilling by half a quart or even a whole quart depending on their regimen. Out of curiosity how many miles are on the car? |

Original post says: "It only has 60k" Some issues I see is that it's a 2013 and there are a few TSBs that caused oil burning or a sensation of oil burning like the cam plate issue that would leak and create quite a bit of smoke if it got out of hand. Check the oil level regularly and start inspecting the exhaust system for oil dripping on it, it may very well be a worn ring or valve guide.

I have been monitoring my cam plate leak often, and have smelled oil burning through the vents and engine bay when a drop lands on the manifold. Since I've owned the car that has only happened twice. The cam plate leak is only a sweat. The smoke and smell I'm talking about is strictly from the exhaust. The oil level is perfect at the moment, as well as my coolant. I had my dad start it this morning while I took a video, I'll post it up later on today. Also, will my cold air intake void my warranty? What about my catback exhaust?

No on the exhaust. Maybe on the intake, depends on the dealer most of the time.
Cars burn oil, some more than others. The owners manual will tell you what is an acceptable amount of oil loss. I'd look it up but I'm too lazy. Generally speaking unless it's always blowing blue smoke and you are also adding excessive amounts of oil, I wouldn't worry about it. |

Smoke is definitely coming OUT of the tailpipe when starting, this is not oil burning off of the exhaust. Here is a short video I took this morning after letting it sit for about 12 hours.
Yesterday this was far worse and smoked immediately after start up with no throttle applied. |
