Because they last forever, and their is a large commercial market. When businesses want to buy multiples individual price means less and price of repairs means more, so trucks are hardier, repairs cost less, and trucks are less likely to need repairs.

Also pickups are a step down from box trucks, which really do last forever. half a million miles on a box truck is nothing, and there are tons of them that are from the 80's and even earlier. So old isn't really a big concern or thought of the same way as normal people think of cars. Neither is needing the newest tech.
Oh I get the value as commercial vehicles but for the last 20 years or so the vast majority of pickups have never been used for work a single day. They still manage to hold value though.
The well maintained work ones lasted forever but the ones that weren't fell apart faster than cars did. There were just so many of them that the survivors seem plentiful but they are really just the few that made it out of the many.

Yea but since so many are work trucks, and I am sure the secondary market for trucks is mostly business buyers, they prop the used values up as well, especially since options and tech really means little to them.

I've owned seven new cars. With the exception of my 1977 Subaru DL, which I sold to a private party, All the others I basically drove into the ground and traded in for $500 on something new. Even my $31,000 2001 Chrysler 300m that had 200,000 miles on it and one side wiped out by a kamikaze deer.

I've got 140k on my 2013 FRS and don't expect to sell it any time soon.

when I was shopping I would have spent 18k for a 2015. 20k for a 2016. new financing was viturally free .compared to used ,new was only 5k more over the term of the loan. that isn't much to know I didn't get someone elses mistake

Jeep Wranglers are right there with Tacoma’s on resale. My buddy just traded his 2014 in and got more in trade than he paid, not kidding, trade. They hold 80% value at 5 years, don’t care what Edmonds says, it’s what market says and where I live they pay it for Jeeps, reason I bought mine new and have no regrets, used was ridiculous.

It creates a problem when looking for cheap used parts. If you spend any time in the Jeep section at the u-pull junk yards, you'll see lots of Cherokees and Grand Cherokees and the odd Comanche and Grand Wagoneer, but nary a Wrangler in sight. When wrecked ones get totaled out, Jeep specialists will buy them out of auction and either hoard them for parts or rebuild them because they're still worth something. Where a lot of Cherokees in the yard come from individuals who just want them out of their yards, you can sell a junk Wrangler on Craigslist and still get considerably more than the boneyard would pay.

On the other hand, Wrangler people are mostly mall crawlers anyway. The people who do their own work and would want cheap parts are going to gravitate toward the other models.

Nice generalized silly stereotype regarding mall crawlers. Most who talk s*** about mall crawlers are just jealous because they can’t afford a bad ass Jeep. That’s like saying most who buy Miata’s and BRZ are just street drivers because they don’t autocross, silly. Even those of us who do off-road spend more time on pavement because we drive on roads to work. Top down, doors off.

One more thing, I spend a ton of time in Jeep section and never hear any complaints. You gotta be kidding me, Jeep Wranglers have far more aftermarket support than any vehicle on market, even more than twins. Don’t believe me? Look it up, I had Jeep before this one and never had issue with parts. I don’t need a junkyard, most keep Jeeps or get rid of them early. It’s either for you or not unlike cars. With that said, I want wither RF or twin for my other dd for fun, dependable, good mpg.

I would say a good portion of 86 owners are 'hard parkers'

Jeeps; are those still a thing? Everyone rolling Ranges and G-wagons where I live. x6m and x5s aplenty here too. See also Macan and SQ5 Q7

Meanwhile I'm still rolling an FR-S and wife laughs at my poor man's Cayman in her S7 I BOUGHT.
