I want to see this thing side-by-side to a 6 series convertible, except I can’t because the 6 series convertable doesn’t exist any longer, nor is it a two-door series any longer, but I guess making the Z4 bigger means the 6 series convertible doesn’t make much sense.

Feels bad, man.

Looking at the spec sheet, I am seeing a lot of add-ons that the Supra can make optional. Also those M-Sport items have always seemed dubious to me - where the margins come from. With cheaper materials, a fixed roof, and none of the BMW markups they can certainly undercut the Z4, but it won't be the bargain that us plebs wanted.

In the US, 30i denotes the more powerful 4 cylinder. The 20i refered to the detuned 4 cylinder that was around 180 hp that you could get in the 3-series.

The difference between the M340i and the regular 340i is also interesting as the 340i isn't mentioned in the 2019 3 Series press release... https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/usa/a...language=en_US

Boasting numerous detail upgrades, the new 2.0-liter, inline 4-cylinder powering the new 2019 BMW 330i unit delivers 255 hp between 5,000 and 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 295 lb-ft from 1,550 to 4,400 rpm.

The new version of the straight-six engine developed for the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan will produce 382 hp and peak torque of 369 lb-ft.

I would assume that if they do indeed offer the 330hp tune for the B58, it hasn't been announced. But then I'm also assuming it would be labeled as just 340i.

Maybe the 2019 models aren't updated online, or they aren't available in other engine sizes until mid or late 2019, but when I looked on BMW USA I didn't see engine options for the Z4 or for the 3 series. Specifically, the Z4 is only available as a 30i, or 2.0T. The M40i version is not available to configure or reserve. I don't know what that means. Maybe I missed something.
