Went to look at my frs today after work. Thought I'd start it to get it warm. Started, idled for 3 seconds then cut off. Opened hood, could clearly see water dripping out of my intake. Took pipe off, it's full of water again. Clearly, water is condensing in my intake when it sits. I haven't driven it all week.
Am I really the only one who lives in the north, cold climate who has experienced water condensing in the intake after a day or two of sitting in 35-55 degree weather? This is boggling my mind.

Water shouild not "condense" in a cold pipe at ambient without a heat source to vaporize the water to begin with. If the humidity was so high in your environment that moisture from the atmosphere could condense at 35-55deg F then all cars in your area would be having major issues. Along with lots of other machinery.
Could be you have a lot of moisture in your motor. On start up the motor warms and the moisture vaporizes. It rises into the cool intake pipe and condenses once the motor is shut down. So the water you saw now could be from the last start up, not from sitting (atmospheric moisture). Did you clean all the water out of the intake with the motor cold and let it sit, then find more water in the pipe a few days later? Your filter is not saturated is it? |

No pics, sorry. The intercooler mounts to te stock crash beam with 2 holes, and my intercooler mounted to the drift bar in the same manner.
I'll take pics when/if I have the front bumper off again. |

Every loud exhaust I've used quieted up over time, after carbon builds up inside it mellows the sound out quite a bit.

Long post short.
I took off the couplers from the intercooler and water pored out. Clearly this was not condensation. Water was getting into the system somewhere. However, all the couplers were tight. Is there any way that water could have rolled off the hood, into the crack between the hood and bumper? There was water on the lip where the bumper bolts down. That sits just above the filter. Additionally, are there any concerns I should have for my turbo if water was going through it? Thoughts? |
