you could probably buy a base model (no option) 435i or 335i for around $45k. with added options like navi and M-Sport option which is a must, it drastically changes the price to over $55k.

I would highly recommend looking at M235i. That is if you can find one.

Yup.

My BRZ had crickets until I had the fuel pump replaced. So far I am about 500 miles in and the crickets are not back, but others that have had their pumps replaced said it will eventually come back (at least it cost me nothing as it was a TSB warranty issue)

As for the rattles: I have a rear deck rattle that my dealer cannot figure out how to fix, the speaker grills in the doors rattle if the bass is too high, I also have a rattle where the seat belt goes into the pillar.

That 3% was my friend's IS250 AWD and everytime he brings it back to the dealer they bs claim to not hear a thing. Eventually the Toyota D4 carbon buildup did the car in.

The new RC looks like an upscaled 86, very nicely done other than the spindle grill that I'm not really digging.

It's hard to compare a FRS to an IS F-Sport, totally different priorities. I bought the BRZ primarily for its low driving position and great handling. The IS should be compared to something like BMW 3 Series or Audi A4.

Is that RC350 plankton powered or something? That grill looks like a whale.

The RC-F is quoted as being almost the exact same weight as the twins...

Two totally different cars that will satisfy totally different needs. Both are good cars in their respective markets so it really just comes down to what you're looking for in a car.

This is the stripped out racecar, not the production vehicle. 3800lbs sounds reasonable and comparable to similar vehicles like the M4 series and the S5.

I drove them back to back, F Sport and regular trim. Definitely not cosmetic.

The F Sport suspension is every bit as good, I say better, than Mercedes C Class (also drove back to back) or Audi A6 (ditto).

I suspect it will beat a non M type BMW also.

The new Lexus IS and GS series are very, very good cars.

Having said that, the FRS is a totally different type of car and driving experience.

Lexus? super quiet, FRS? very noisy. Lexus? superb ride FRS? not so much although the 2015 has re-tuned suspension reported to be much better than before. Lexus? Very quick in 350 rwd version FRS? Pretty slow by modern standards though reports are they get quite a bit quicker as the engine breaks in, say 20,000 km (12,000 miles) or so.

Handling? Well, short of a Porsche Cayman nothing out there compares to the FRS/BRZ for handling. The Lexus is very good but is still an 1,600 kg + (3,600 lb) four door vehicle.

Value for money? Lexus.

Outright performance? Lexus

Fun to drive? Well, surprisingly close actually though very different. This Lexus has been refined and developed from bumper to bumper over the previous models, it's a winner.

But that is me. I will never go back too an automatic transmission unless something goes wrong with me, or further wrong. I've had two surgeries on my left ankle and one on my left knee, but still have to have 3 pedals.

I do like the saying German performance with Japanese reliability.

You should just buy the LFA
The Lexus automatic is basically an automated manual from 2 gear up. The lock up clutch operates most of the time. If you feel sporty you can paddle shift though automatic mode will be quicker.

The same basic automatic goes into the FRS/BRZ (although modified from the IS F 8 spd officially) and it is very good there too, if the gearing is a little tall.

Nobody is making manual transmissions for this class of vehicle anymore because they are too slow.

Lexus now makes a much better car than the Germans.

The 235 is a tiny car by comparison. Not good value at all.

Quarter miles and laps around the Nurburging times I could care less about. And I do understand that new high end automatic transmissions change gears lightning fast, but its not as enjoyable.

In my opinion it removes some of the connection between myself and the car. I love the physicality of gear changes

Seriously, don't waste your money on a depreciating asset until you pay your loans off. You already have reliable transportation to work that is costing you next to nothing, enjoy the awesomeness that is not having a monthly car payment at least until you've paid off your student loans.
