I've heard the magic number for our transmission is 400 ftlb tq... at that number:

Heck ..... I don't really know, however, I'd guess the amount of torque it takes to mess up the transmission is somewhere above the amout of torque that breaks the clutch/pressure plate and the rear axles ...

Lots of Twins owners are having troubles like this. There is a thread or two or four in the TSB / warranty issues section about this.

Mine doesnt like 4th gear when about 5k revs or above at all. Its like o you want 4th, well you cant have it

Yup actually had mine replaced under warranty. I was only lightly modded at the time (catback and intake), but they replaced it. Billed Toyota something over $6000 for the job. Hopefully that's not your problem

Cryo treating the gears is the only way currently. I haven't seen any gear sets for our trans yet, Depending on the material in ours, Cryo would get you another 100tq +/- over what the current limitation is.

Factory clutch can hold 300whp or about 220wtq on the street. It would need to be replaced for motorsport use. As for the transmission, I would venture a guess of about 400tq as mentioned above. Maybe before. There are some people that are running that with built motors that have been safe thus far, but who knows. Are they launching the car? Do they have crazy sticky rubber? How aggressive is their clutch?

Tons of factors to consider. For daily abuse, 400tq is about what I would put my money on for reliability, all other trans issues out of the question.
