I'm curious what you're going to run for rubber, since you could go a lot faster on full slicks than semi slicks if you don't need to drive the car to the track.

Also, why aren't you considering the MCA Reds from OZ? If you're going light weight, you might benefit from custom or different spring rates than a 'full fat' 86.

I'm also curious where you think you shaved that 2 seconds from on your full fat car. Tires? Suspension? Driving? It's a pretty small time difference if you're comparing times on stock 16 inch rubber to times on wider rims and semi slicks.

I'm on a similar quest to shave time on my local track as well. I've done the suspension, BBK, a header back + tune and stickier road tires (PS2s) + shaved a minimal amount of weight from throwing out the trunk junk and swapping in a lightweight battery. Currently maxed out on my current setup. Want to keep it DD worthy and N/A for now so it seems that extra rims and better rubber are up next, although I was trying to avoid that whole tire-changing-before-track-days mess.

Will be watching your build.

You mentioned you want to run 15's on your car because of better tyre selection.

Do you know if 15's will clear stock GTS brakes?
Btw, have you looked into Compomotive TH's or something similar?

Besides being plain or ugly(depending on how you look at it) the design of the wheel is pretty functional(the outer holes actually act as a 'vent' to suck out the hot hair from the brakes thereby cooling them.

So I've gone completely against what I said I'd do and am going to go turbo straight off the bat. Just committed to a custom jdl kit.

I'm going to need to rethink brakes/wheels. Lucky I'm a sucker for punishment.

Edit, no I'll put this on the street car. Stick with NA track plans.

I would consider MCA's but they let me down a year ago. I was in Brisbane for work and they said they'd have a set ready. Drove out to them, "nope they'll be ready tomorrow morning" which was the day I was leaving. Got a text/voicemail to say they still weren't ready but they could ship them over to me, if I paid for the shipping. Left a bitter taste tbh.

Re: my track times. I would put it down to brakes and tyres. I agree 2 seconds isnt a lot. The 123s tyre is claimed as a semi slick, but its not really. It is good that it doesnt need warming up, but it goes off quickly (3 laps). I felt like the RSR's slowed me down compared to the stock suspension. But dont have a way to quantify that, as I had the better rubber and brakes.

Not sure if 15's clear the ADM GTS brakes. I had/have the lower spec brakes, which are smaller. From a quick look in the wheel/tyre compilation thread, there are guys in the states that have fitted 15's for winter, they have the same brakes as you.

Looking forward to this build. You're always full of good info. Oh and I broke my car in on the track as well, I don't believe in the taking it easy for 1000 miles crap.

Finally got round to ordering the car. Was waiting and waiting for them to drop the price and they didn't. Ah well. It now begins!

Got the circuit wheels for the new gt86 sorted already. Two sets of 17x9.5 +25 Impul racing wheels, one set with kumho slicks, the other with kumho wets, and a set of 17x9+35 Volk cv-pros with with Dunlop semi slicks. 9" + 35 is the size I have the meisters in, so I thikn pretty decent. The impuls sit out another 16mm, but I reckon they'll be right with a smidge more camber. Got all from one dude that just got 16 new volks.

I like how the S700's already come with the lettering prepainted. It's a nice touch.
