So I went looking to see what other boring crap Toyota unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Show and noticed this. It's called the Concept-i WALK, the irony of which I'm sure is completely lost on Toyota's marketing people. But it does require you to steer yourself around with your hand on an erect bulbous penis, which you talk to in public.

Meanwhile, here's Honda's electric sports car concept for Tokyo.

I've never owned a Honda. I've never even been interested in a Honda. But if they were to build something that looks even remotely like that and has the performance to match the looks, I might be a buyer.

Dear Mr. Akio Toyoda:

Please build me a car very similar to what I already own.

It must have about a third more engine power than my current vehicle, more torque, more hp.

It must have a 6 or 7 speed manual transmission, with a clutch pedal (that's three pedals total).

It should have, from the factory, an ability to be easily adjusted for caster, camber, toe after it's sold.

It must have a complete steel roof, no targa, no sunroof.

It must have room in the back for four tires on wheels.

I have no interest in an electric or hybrid car.

While you're at it...please ask Mr. Trump to remove the ethanol from all gasoline stations in the USA, so I can get better fuel mileage.

Thank You and have a wonderful day.

Yup, this is all hype built up by us, only because the chassis is based on ZN6.

The initial Z33 Fairlady Z / 350Z concept was built on a 240SX chassis. People flipped out thinking the S-chassis still had life.

If they can keep the weight down to 2800 lbs I'd be all for it.

Let's see, targa, two-seater, more power, more torque, fighter pilot flip start button....

I'm liking it. I even like the headlights, but then I'm a big fan of the CTS-V design so that would follow suit.

I would prefer jump seats, but I could live with a two seater. I say bring it on!

So let me get this straight Toyota....

A faster 86 can't be done because it'll be too expensive....yet that doesn't stop you from pushing out a 14r60 in Japan worth $60k and several special editions over 30k. Fine I said...

The next excuse was that there would be no market for it...yet I see a $40k Focus and Golf do well and I see folks putting orders on non special edition Mustang/Camaro's in Corvette/M2 price territory. Fine I said...

Then I heard that a faster 86 would mess with the identity of the car being fun pure lightweight sports car....but then they try to push the idea of a hybrid 86 that'll add hundreds of pounds with a glorified Logitech shifter as a transmission?

Really Toyota?? You're running out of excuses.

I agree, but make us a real 2 seater version of this car. I'll pay the extra insurance on it.

By the time 2020 rolls around, the price per Kwh should be closer to or below $100. Toyota will have made the electrical components smaller and cheaper. The next-gen FA20 will be more efficient. When taken together, a hybrid 86 would make an already solid daily sports car that much better.

I'd be thrilled with 50 mpg and instant torque.

Assuming it can still be had with a manual.

Going off the concept pictures it looks to me like it will be an automatic with a sport mode and when in sport mode it will have a simulated gated transmission. If I could bet money on it I would guess it will be some sort of CVT with preset fake gear ratios for when you put it in manual mode.

Does anyone make a hybrid with a true manual transmission?

The Honda CR-Z. I can't think of anything else. Not sure where you would put the electric motor in the 86, or how it would operate. Probably would lose the pure EV mode.

I'll take it too, keep the the weight the same and low and track worthy too. It's a Win Win. Never know how small and powerful batteries would be in 3-5 years.

...but really how many people have purchased cars like the Focus RS and Golf R? the twins reached 100,000 quite quickly (less than 3 years) whereas the only Focus RS sales figure I was able to find mentioned they sold 3,500 units in the first 6 months..and to think Ford will be cutting production on it soon..and I doubt the Golf R sells any better. Mustangs & Camaros have too much "America!" cachet for anyone to expect the twins to take over their spots..

either way, clearly all the folks who wanted a faster 86 just needed to wait for the "supra", they'll get their 4 cyl turbo with the base model for $40 K nothing is wrong with this hybrid 86...it isn't even called an 86! they are merely previewing potential next gen tech with a chassis they already have, I don't look at this as anything more. if the automatic only supra rumors turn out to be true, personally i hope this concept's gaming shifter makes it to the supra
