http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ghlight=perrin You can do this on jackstands. It isn't a hard install. We mentioned you can see the rear shifter insert from inside the car when you have everything apart.

Just installed mine the other day. The install went extremely well - I also attempted to pull the rubber off the linkage from the transmission end rather than the small hole at the top where the actual shifter goes - woops. After going at it the right way it came right down and was easy to pull out of the way.
Does anyone know what the allen head screw is from on the top of the shifter (where you put the knob on)?

Its a set screw to hold the internal spring in compression. Its all part of our patent on the shifter. Tom |

Thanks for the write up. I managed to get my shifter installed with a minimum of problems. I did manage to tear the dust boot that covers the linkage, but I think it'll be OK.

I installed my short shifter two weeks ago tomorrow. The install went fine and the shifter has functioned and felt great, with no audible vibrations.
I got around to installing the rear bushing yesterday. I did it with a set of Rhino ramps and wheel chocks. It took me an hour or so. I suspect it would have gone easier and faster had I access to a lift or a jack that could raise the car higher for support on jack stands. The limited amount of room under the car combined with the cramped quarters around the bushing (due to the close proximity to the exhaust and drive shaft) made it a challenge to get the bolts holding the OEM bushing out and the replacement bolts for the KB bushing back in and torqued. The bushing helped crisp up the shift feel. All in all, I'm extremely pleased with the KartBoy short shifter and rear bushing for the twins. SilentMike |

Installed mine today. This DIY is spot on. Went in flawlessly. Thanks to the OP.
Just took it for a spin around the block. Shifts are much more precise and I think it helped with second gear. Always has been a bit notchy. Little more drive time. Has helped with the 1-2 shift. Little more effort required to change the gears. Overall I love it. Edit #2 : After a couple weeks with the shifter now.... getting a audible rattle/buzz higher rpm in 2nd.
