Well I thought I was in the clear after getting the car back from the recall. Nope!

Found that oil was leading from the sandwich plate of my oil cooler today when installing a new air filter. Thankfully not much as oil level is still ok. Went to dealer and their response is that they aren’t responsible for aftermarket parts...

Call Jackson racing and they said that it’s likely over torqued and I need two new o rings. Point being - if you have aftermarket parts on your car you may want to be careful and ensure they know how to work on your car!!

Swapped engine??

ive been reading up on this quite a bit. Havent really seen a clear answer on CA SMOG requirements to do this recall.

Here is my scenario. Picked up a Salvage BRZ, found out it had the engine swapped for whatever reason. Engine in it is from an AT model, so the passenger side head is slighlty different.

Would they still complete this recall? I know the salvage title is not an issue, but the different engine im not sure about.

any ideas?

There are a couple of guys that reported the dealer would not do the wok on a swapped engine. Best bet would be to contact a nearby dealer and see what they have to say.

Thanks for the reply. I hope this job isnt required by CA SMOG then, if it is then this car will be useless. might be time to part it out ha

It is part of the smog. California is the only place it is mandatory as laid out in the recall documents. All depend on how strictly they enforce it I guess.

I thought if they declined to perform the repair you were issued a letter saying such? That would serve the same purpose as the letter saying the recall had been completed as far as SMOG goes.

I have a number of honda friends that exclusively shop in cali looking for rust free older honda's that don't pass SMOG. Then buy them and move them back to the midwest.

I need to do that with some s13s ahaha

After valve spring recall - Engine light and traction control disabled

Hi guys,
Today after long waited (3 weeks) from dealership here in San Jose, i got my 2013 BRZ back for the valve spring recall. On the drive back about 10 mins in, my engine light came on, and i called the dealership and they told me to bring the car back. I was stuck in the middle of traffic and had a meeting to go to, so I told them i bring it back tomrorow morning. After my meeting, i started the car and the engine light + traction control came on, but no other weird noises (as i would suspect) were noted. Any of you guys who got the recall done had the same issue?
I googled and found another thread about it, but so far no real answers, some of them their car are still back at the dealership.. mainly at Toyota dealerships.

Let me know if anyone had gone through and what was told to them... im worried my engine is now junked... car was perfectly fine before the recall...

Thanks.

Depends on the code(s) being thrown. Was there power loss? Driveability changes?

Put your status in the registry thread and update the google doc as well to keep all the info in one place.
