Worth getting repaired?

I was exiting a parking garage and the line out was taking a bit long so the guy in front of me decided to take another exit and backed up into me. The grille became loose and as I was readjusting it I noticed these lines on the bumper. They were not there before the incident.

Took the car to get an estimate and they quoted me $430.
Owner of the other car wants to pay for it out of pocket directly to the body shop.

Is this worth getting repaired? Body shop said they were stress cracks caused by the bumper bending during the hit.
Will the paint crack through to the clear coat?

Car is dirty from drive to Payson last weekend, just haven't been able to scrub it down well. Rest of the car is clean though.

What do you guys think about swapping to a BRZ front end?

Why wouldnt you if the other guy is paying? Especially if he is the one who caused it.

Let me rephrase Is it worth going through insurance or just have him pay for it?

I'm also thinking of finding them a BRZ front bumper and paying the difference to have them paint it

In that case, I have no idea. I mean if its less work I would have hkim pay for it up front. Its not any major damage so it shouldnt matter to insurance.

I had a hard time finding the damage. But..... If the other dude is paying, take it to a shop get estimates and how long you'll be with out a car. If it's worth it to you do it. It could be just a simple buff or a respray.

There may be underlying damage that will get $$$$ once they take that bumper off. From the looks of it, it was straight on from those stress lines too. I had someone back up into me. It damaged the foam, and bent the crash bar enough it needed to be replaced. Just from backing up into me. The bumper got replaced cause the damage on the back side they couldn't see until they took it off. They couldn't just use the heat to mold it back and respray. Was about 1800 bucks total for everything if i remember right. Usually always good to get things replaced through there insurance if you can, always damage they can't see for the estimate, and i would suspect the person won't pay more once you agree if they find more damage behind the bumper once its off. You can't up and go through the insurance then unless you know the shop people, lol.

For $430 it probably doesn't even meet his deductible - he's going to have to pay out of pocket anyway, might as well not take the hit to his rates. Also keep in mind reporting to insurance means the accident will show up on carfax if you ever sell it. As long as it's really only $430 of damage, and he's good for the money, not a problem.

As others have said there may be more damage underneath. I recommend getting a second quote from a body shop you trust. If the quote comes back roughly the same, tell him you'd prefer to use this shop so you can make sure the job is done right and the new paint matches.

If the quote is substantially larger, you'll probably need to get your/his insurance involved. If you don't have a police report, this could get sticky as he can change his story and not agree about the facts of the incident.

In general I'm always a little suspicious of offers to pay things out of pocket and keeping insurance out of the loop except for small amounts of damage.
