Sounds like a jet, IMO.

Sounds absolutely fantastic man. Great racing video too.

I dont know if you or anybody reading this has any experience with other garrett turbos. Out of the 3 turbo options that the JDL kit has, I m looking at the first Garrett turbo. I would imagine it wont have the same sound as the GTX but would you say similar, still like a jet?

Thanks.

I think you're overthinking the sound from the different turbo options. The base journal bearing Precision 4831 and even the optional dual ball bearing Garrett GT2860RS will both sound basically the same, similar to my car when it spools up.

Don't choose a turbo because you think it will sound different/better than another. They're all basically the same. Choose a turbo based on your power goals and budget. The base Precision turbo is capable of 380whp on ethanol and 280-300whp on pump gas. The Garrett GT option will touch 400whp on ethanol and the Garret GTX turbos will go even higher to the point where you'll destroy the stock transmission before the motor lets go (assuming you don't build it with stronger internals first).

I have the PTE48 and it sounds comparable to a twin I've ridden in that had a GT2871R. If you don't recirculate your wastegate you won't hear a god damn thing but GGGGGTARTAARRRRRRRRRRRAAOOOOOOOOOOAAAARRRRRRRRRRRG GGGGGGGGGGGG after 4 thousand RPMs.

This isn't the case here. I'm already set on the Garrett GT option. I'm just curious if that sound is a Garrett thing, but since GTX is a bigger turbo, I would assume that sound is more dominant. Ive seen some problems with the precision here and there, but nothing with Garrett. I'm not interested in spending about +1000 on the GTX either, I'm not trying to build so much.

Not really. Yes, different turbine and compressor wheels will sound different but the biggest component of the "turbo sound" is the fact that you have a pair metal wheels spinning at ~100,000 RPM moving air. High rotational speed gives you the high pitch. The layout of the intake plumbing and air filter before the turbo controls the volume and the profile/size of the wheels themselves change the "color" of the sound.

The reason it sounds like a jet is basically because it is. At least it has all the major components of a jet engine, just with external combustion rather than internal. Here's a video of a turbocharger that has been converted into a jet engine. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0phVKg57dM"]GR-7 DIY Turbojet Engine Performance Testing - YouTube[/ame]

A bit of a shitty video, but gives a little bit of sound for the JDL kit with an open dump tube.

Can someone provide me with clarification. I have a new JDL "non cut" version. I'm currently stuck on install because of the MAF placement. Was I suppose to receive a harness extension with my kit, or do I need to extend the wires on the factory harness?

I can't get in touch with JDL due to the holiday weekend.

Funnily enough, I had a buddy of mine extend them before I realized they have an extension as part of the kit.

You should have one.

Do it! Even if you want to stay at or near your current boost levels, I have a 'wastegate' map that has the target set to my wastegate spring level, it lowers the boost threshold by about 300 rpm. They are so affordable, no reason not to. I'd recommend against the Grimspeed EBCS, the barbs on them are tiny. Switched to an Infamous Performance EBCS and the difference can be seen logging manifold pressure. Nothing dramatic, but every bit helps when you are fighting to keep your transient up.
