I've seen it so many times on the GC forums along with "350+ hp is no problem for the 2.0T" then there are threads of people blowing their engines.

It is because of the deck design of the block (Mitsu wanted to do enough of their own "design" work to change it from the basic engine) now the Turbo Engine is different in the GC from the Sonata

It doesn't have the same model as the EVO (it was made under GEMA ) Hyundai headed up a lot of the R&D

The Theta engine is turbocharged for use in the Genesis Coupe. In this form it produces 210 hp (213 PS) @ 6,000rpm on 87 octane (AKI) gasoline, and 223 hp (226 PS) on 93 AKI. Torque remains the same at 223 lb·ft (302 N·m) @ 2000rpm. The Theta block used is very similar to the Mitsubishi Evolution X 4B11T, but the two engines are not identical. [1]

The 2.0L GDI turbo in 2011 Sonata develops 274 hp (278 PS) and 269 lb·ft (365 N·m) of torque. The fuel economy is rated at 22mpg(10.7L / 100KM) in the city and 34mpg(6.92L / 100KM) on the highway. It comes exclusively with a 6-speed AT. The engine has a maximum boost of 17psi and features twin-scroll turbocharger. [2]

It's a little bitter sweet if you know car's history : Hyundai started years ago and had to have engines so they bought from Mitsu and now Mitsu is getting them from Hyundai. I am all for the "little guy" but the GC is "good" and could be better. They did benchmark the E46M should mean something.

I think it was a structure integrity issue/test/comparison

Also, should be interesting as a "next gen" goal for the car to get a better design now that they took a BMW designer

There is a lot of crazy builds coming from Korea you just have to dig. There are GC 2.0T making 400hp+ but they do have to do a bit of work to get them there along with some of the 3.8 v6 getting a popular TT upgrade.

Anyways yeah lets wait and not bash on TRD till they actually say/reveal something. Toyota has not let us down yet so show some confidence in them.

It will be epic and we r all bitching about what TRD will or wont do....

We get to see all these aftermarket handling, power options and pick and choose before the Toyota/BRZ even hits the showroom floor......
EPIC...................

I hope to go down the TRD road for the most part if they meet the standards with coilovers, brakes and a bodykit but id be kidding myself to think my 86 wont get a strong lick from HKS, DEFI, CUSCO, VERTEX and BRIDE.....
This is what I am looking forward to seeing from this show. One has to believe that Toyota has given a few of these cars out to be tuned for this show like they did with Greedy and the FRS.

see thats sad. if the heavy hitters are hitting around 400 on a RWD that is bleh to me. maybe i am being a bit rough on the car. i like the car i guess i just expected more. my tc was 350 at one point and i am pretty sure 400 is easily attainable. when i think RWD i think huge hp for some reason. maybe it's because i am such a supra fan boy. i just think 400 isnt that impressive for some reason. maybe because i was so close to that.
