@Akuma147,

So the back of a pioneer has 2 USB with power slots. I cut up a USB wire, deaded the data +/- wires, spliced the power+ (5v) wire to the pin 4 mic amp power, and sent the USB power- to chasis ground.

Worked like a charm!! If your head unit does not have USB slots in the back, I'm sure you can use a similar method to the reverse cam (12v to 5v converter, tap ignition 12v wire) for the same effect. So here is the FINAL pin arrangement that I can confirm works:

Pin 4: Mic power (5v) - Tap one of my HU's USB ports for 5V OR if you don't have a spare USB slot... Buy a DROK 12 to 5v converter and do similar things as you instructed with the reverse cam
Pin 5: (Mic +) - Positive wire of spliced 2.5mm mono that goes into HU
Pin 6: Mic Detect - I sent to chasis ground
Pin 18: Mic Shield Ground - I sent to chasis ground
Pin 19: (Mic -) - Negative wire of spliced 2.5mm mono that goes into HU

Awesome job trying this out for all of us here on the forums! I might have to try this out. How is the sound quality of the mic? I haven't really used it with the original Starlink HU that came with the BRZ, I replaced the HU 3 weeks after owning it

Ayeeee

So, ugh, the mic quality has too much static I am told. People can hear me but they say its too much static to be an enjoyable conversation. I had first tested out at 4am calling my Bank and speaking to the automated menu system with voice commands and it worked.

I was researching the other day and saw a DIY video on youtube of some guy who installed some sort of device to the ground to make the ground much cleaner and powerful to drain extra noise or something... but he said he purchased the item at Best Buy in the last year. I can't find the video now of course... But I am going to Best Buy tomorrow to speak to the audio installers directly and see what they can find for me.

ON ANOTHER NOTE the ASWC-1 worked for the volume, source, seek/preset buttons and the center "enter" button became the "ATT" button. However I did lose the on/off hook and PTT button functionality. Maybe I can custom program them but we'll see. Here is the ASWC-1 configuration as given to me from an Axxess customer service rep... Jerry. He's the man.

Hello when installing the ASWC-1 into your BRZ you will want to wire it as follows,

Gray/red wire of ASWC-1 to pin# 22 of the vehicle
Gray/blue of the ASWC-1 to pin# 21 of the vehicle
Black/green of the ASWC-1 will go to chassis ground
Pin#23 of the vehicle to chassis ground.

You will want to reset the ASWC-1 by holding the reset button down for 3 seconds then push and hold the volume up on the steering wheel until the light starts flashing green then release.

I have attached a copy to the installation instructions that will apply to your vehicle.

https://metradealer.com/files/aswc/ASWC-1_INST_959.pdf

After you get it all installed and working please let me know how it worked out for you.

Thank you,

THIS

@Akuma147 Sorry for the hundreds of posts but I feel we are so close. This is the product I heard about and I will ask them tomorrow. Do you know much about this? Ground Loop Isolators. The guy in the video had bought two of the first (Metra) one and put them in series to reduce noise in his mic and speakers.

Thinking of buying this: https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Ground-.../dp/B01L1NP7YI

Akuma147 can you make one of these custom harness for me?

I am interested in getting this android head unit, but Joying told me that my backup camera will not work with their harness. As you pointed out you need to down voltage and meet the voltage of the camera and do some other things.

My current head unit on my Toyota 86 GT:

Just follow my guide, everything is written so that anyone with minimal knowledge of wiring can still do it. For the backup camera, you need to get the DROK 12V to 6V converter and wire it exactly as described in my guide.

Thanks,

have you got a higher resolution image of the wire guide, some wires are hard to make out which point they are going to (no offence to your diagram)

Cheers

Don't bother buying this harness, it's not plug and play.

I ended up just making a harness like OP, although for some reason my rear speakers don't work at all?

Check your 6-pin connector, and make sure it's plugged in all the way. That connector is for the rear speakers.

Awesome guide, thanks, I will be trying this combo for sure!

Does this headunit support Android Auto, or how do maps work on it? (Google Maps, Waze. etc)

I have a 2017 GT86 Special Edition, and I have no idea if there is a GPS antenna up in the shark fin or not. If it does have a GPS antenna, then at least offline maps would work, but then no live info to help route around traffic, etc. Android auto gets around that, but I am unable to see anywhere if this headunit supports it. Thanks!

The unit comes with a GPS antenna, the shark fin is for the radio antenna. I haven't tried android auto so not sure about that. It doesn't matter because it is a full android unit, so android auto isn't necessary. You can download any maps app. iGo is preinstalled and that can be used offline. If you want to use Google Maps or Waze, you need an internet connection. I use my phone and tether it with bluetooth to get data, or you can use wifi hotspot.

Hi...i am a new user here. In my case I upgraded my Joying Head Unit to the recently released 2gb model. It's MUCH faster and more responsive. I suggest anyone to get this model if you're looking to get an android unit any time soon.

gps antenna is behind the head unit and to the right on a metal "shelf"

for a cleaner install, you can buy an adapter cable so your stock gps antenna will work with the joying unit.

or I guess you could probably take the "shelf" out and remove the gps unit, and attach the joying gps unit to it..

but for me the cable was an easier route
