catted header or catted front pipe?

ok so I've come to the conclusion that I want to keep one cat in the exhaust system to keep the rasp/tone down. I'm more than likely going the FA20Club route and you can get either the front pipe or header catted, so which is more beneficial? or does it even matter? thanks for any input

I would keep the header catted. This way you don't have to "trick the ECU" that you have no cat. The front pipe is just there for better emissions. 0% chance of a CEL if you get a straight/resonated front pipe.

edit ninja who's the chick in your avatar?

Catted front pipe. You should get a tune with a header anyway. Go catless on the header since the highest flow of the exhaust occurs through it.

Yeah I think this is the route I'm leaning on. The cel deal isn't a major concern since I'll be getting a tune with the header anyways. Thanks for the replies guys

catted front pipe, I remember Perrin saying that the cat in the header is easier to fail due to higher temperature and etc...

I'm still surprised Perrin decided not to make a header. There is a huge market for them and Perrin has a huge crowd following them. I'm sure they could make a pretty nice quality one that produces good numbers.

did they ever say why they decided to not make one? everything they make is quality and I could see a header being a HUGE seller for them, especially with their loyal followers.

They said in a post they were not because they wanted a catted version only and felt that the cat would die quickly and did not want that from previous experience.

Cat the front pipe. You won't want the header catted, it'll rob HP from the car.

Unless you're heavily modified, most opt for an "off the shelf" tune instead of a local dynotune. Visconti, FA20Club, etc all offer good options.

^^^this.... but yes there is also a local company I deal with named Motiva that does everything from alignments to full custom fabricated race/turbo builds. there are several other tuning shops around town too, but I don't think any deal with ecutek. you can always rent the dyno and have fa20club or whoever do a remote tune too in real time
