Just traded in my 2013 BRZ for my 2014 WRX. Don't like the looks of the 2015 and the BRZ was a total wimp. Fun to drive, yes. But still a total wimp.

Brz is a sports car, wrx is a sporty car.

My last car was a bugeye that I put 200k miles on. No matter how much I tuned the car, it always had the engine stick out in front of the front axles.

I came from a Forester XT (family wagon that comes with a wrx drivetrain from the factory), it was pretty quick and had lots of room but thats about all i miss. Just mostly miss the power, but i'll fix that when i turbo the frs. the frs is a much better looking car, and like it was said above, it handles so much better. my frs does just fine in the snow with some blizzaks on it.

I came from a 05 sti (e85 tuned) and a 2000 gc8 with a wrx swap. While i miss the turbo spool and tq I enjoy the nimble nature of the brz and rwd.

Comparing the sti on track to the brz, sti was much faster but i enjoy pushing the brz harder, it's an easier car to drive. Putting the turns together to gain momentum brings different form of satisfaction.

Came from a stage 1 protuned 08 sti. Traded it in for my brz. Loved both, but they're very different. I find driving the sti anywhere near the speed limit is extremely boring, whereas the brz is a blast to drive, even slowly. The brz interior is a lot more comfortable than the rattle box sti. I love not having si drive and having all my power all the time. Reviewers whine about the lack of power, but honestly, on public roads, it feels way faster than my sti (no turbolag = lots of low end torque). The sti felt like a machine, whereas the brz feels like a friend. The sti felt like a souped up econobox. The brz feels like a true sports car with the comfort and tech toys of a much more expensive car. FT86 is also a more friendly community than nasioc.

I found I was never using the 4 doors and trunk space, since it's primary job was transporting me to and from work. I really liked the idea of having a small coupe while I was young because once you start popping out kids, a wrx will still be an option, whereas the brz will be much harder to justify. I also looked at the cars other 86 owners were coming from. A lot of guys here have had porsches, vettes, gt-r's, built evo's, sti's, etc. Think that says a lot about the 86.

At the end of the day, test drive both. You'll know.

I love these points but I do not like the assumption that you can only enjoy an awd platform if it snows... a lot of high HP vehicles are AWD and that is because of the inherent benefits of the platform to give you a better start off the line, increased stability and traction in turns.. etc etc.. the whole snow thing is old for me.

But besides that.. Can't wait for my STi to arrive .

"Enjoy" can mean a lot of different things. I find battling with grip enjoyable, whereas someone else may prefer battling with their clutch and tranny during hard awd launches. It's totally preference, but after you drive an 86 for a while, driving an sti feels like cheating. The grip on that car is unreal. Enjoy it!

Yea! I actually gave in and after really figuring out what was important to me I got the 2014 hatch that always got the kid in me going. Plus since I am a triathlete it makes way more sense than a sedan. It is totally boss and I do not think I will be switching cars for a very long time. It is definitely an all purpose machine w a little bit of everything, minus luxury.

The 86 was great, but I feel like for me it was not something that "I" could live with for 4+ years also.. and well.. again personal preference.

I traded in my 2011 sti for my FRS. Love it. Traded in my wifes 2008 Honda for a 2013 impreza. Then when the 2014 WRX came out we traded in her 2013 impreza for the 2014 WRX.... So we have a 2013 FRS Supercharged and 2014 WRX. The WRX will nom the FRS all day long in a straight line or in slick conditions. But if we are talking track times or nice warm conditions. My FRS all day. As for my STi. It was 320WHP 350WTQ and the FRS is funner to drive... Deff not faster then my STi around a track though. But the 29mpg supercharged vs my 17mpg STi is a win. Plus sex apeal. #drifttax

This. Got bored of my Legacy GT, the chassis and brakes just couldn't keep up with my driving style regardless of the power advantage. People willing to trade more power and weight over better chassis dynamics are just different types of drivers.

Just to be clear, the Legacy was purchased as my comfortable daily driver, now the FRS is my comfortable daily.

even with the supercharger the FRS still gets 'nommed'?

The only major downside of the WRX or STI over the BRZ/FRS is the fuel economy and expense of maintaining/repairing the additional AWD components. Otherwise, pretty much everything makes either of those cars a much more sensible choice for ALL weather conditions.

If you're purely looking for a fun 2-seater, stick with the 86. If you want a car that'll do it all with gobs of grip and power, get a WRX/STI. I've got both -> Because race cars.

Ok..So i spend the last 4 Days driving a 2012 Subaru WRX...a friend was kind enough to switch with me while i drove to pittsburgh since it was snowing there. There are some pros and cons to the car. I enjoyed the turbo and the extra space for things. But i was not a fan of the handling compared to my BRZ. Also was not a fan of its gas mileage. I am still processing other thoughts on the car. But it handled the snow like a champ. With all the driving i do a WRX would hit my pockets too hard.
