I want more power as well and I have two options figured out for myself that I thought I'd share with you
FI option: simply get some sort of fi. Supercharger or turbo. Whichever fits what you want better. Personally I already own an open flash tablet and they offer a discounted vortech supercharger for those who own a tablet already. They have off the shelf open flash tablet tunes for it as well so you would not have to spend a lot of money on tunes using another company. This is the fi option I would go with if I decide to do fi. NA option: openflash tablet along with the open flash header. Those two together are just shy of $1000. Then you can run e85 on top of that at no extra cost as those tunes are included with the OFT. The header combined with e85 will get you an extra 30 or so hp. Then you can get a shorter final drive ratio. The combo of all of these together should make the car feel very snappy for na. This is what I plan on doing and I'm about halfway there. Everyone has their own vision for their car. I thought id share mine as I might be of use to you. |

Making more power is easy...you just throw money at the engine until it's as fast as you'd like it to be.

but it need more torque at low rpm. forced induction will fix that probleme. that in the same time, you lose your warranty. |

and a bit of reliability...and a good bit of fuel economy. As a general rule, a supercharger will give you more low-end torque, while a turbocharger will give you more high-end power

A stock FR-S doesn't need anything. It's awesome already.

if i had to say something about it, it would be that the frs is slow compared to its competitors and the car market in general but not slow compared to my (and more than likely your) driving ability.

Open Flash Tablet, Open Flash Header and then a Phantom SC. I have the first one and am planning on the other two. No easier, user and car friendly mods out there that yield as much, IMO. Having said that, the FR-S does not "need" more power. It's way, way more than the sum of it's stock parts.

Define "cheap". The OFT/H and ESC come in under 3K the last time I looked. For the gains you get, that's "cheap" IMO. 3k is a lot of money to me, but there is nothing else that compares for the money. The "real" FI solutions are maturing fast, but I have zero desire to spend my non-driving time nursing a potential grenade.
I've said it many times, the FR-S stock has serious chops that are fun to explore and learn to use. The OFT and E85 tune gains below five k in third or fourth gear where I spend most of my time when having fun (reasonably) on the street is what I want to improve. Does the FR-S "need" that to be fun? No, unless you really suck at driving and your only skill is stepping on the gas. However, I'm starting to "want" that real bad. |
