5x114 conversion, what's involved?

I was curious what's involved if you wanted to convert from 5x100 to 5x114, parts needed, is it safe for track use, and general pros and cons of making the swap?

Always thankful for useful input,
Me.

I've been reposting this topic every couple months since last summer. I'd love to see 5x114 hubs come out.

Here's the typical answer to why I shouldn't ask..
1.) There are plenty of nice wheels coming out in 5x100
2.) It's too expensive.. might as well spend the money on nice 5x100 wheels

Here's what I know.. You should be able to use late model STI hubs for the rear wheels. However, the front wheels hubs don't seem to be swappable with any other Subaru model.. at least not that I've heard.

Some people suggest that you could go to a machine shop and have them re-drill the rotors to 5x114.3.. but I've seen reports that there isn't enough meat on the hubs to allow that to be done safely.

You can get 10mm conversion spacers.. Ichiba maybe? They are only a couple hundred bucks per half.. that would a decent solution. But most people will warn you that spacers aren't safe for track use.

So... hopefully i've offered some help..

I've seen a couple track guys running spacers... @robispec is one.. I'm not sure about @CSG Mike or @CSG David.. They run the stock 5x100 but have extended studs and spacers.. For sure robispec does

Stick with 5x100. It will keep the hub lighter.

We run the stock 5x100 with no extended studs or spacers. Our aim is to run the proper wheel sizes to utilize as much stock equipment as possible. However, we would have liked Subaru/Toyota to actually use 5x114.3 straight from the factory instead of this bolt pattern.

Seems everyone says that.. The 5x114.3 must be way more popular for rims huh... I didn't remember seeing if you guys had spacers.. I know robi does... Either way I knew all still was using the stock bolt pattern .. Can't wait for my next track day, also completely off topic, my friend @Pin Flare got his exhaust today.. He loves it.. Just giving you guys a thumbs up

Thanks for the props! Glad he's enjoying his new exhaust

The 5x100, according to the WRX guys, say that the wheel bearing goes out a little quicker than the 5x114.3. Who knows...just why did Subaru/Toyota do this to a sports car just blows my mind.

Yes, I mentioned this in the second post.

Why get them from Japan when you can get them here on this site..

we *have* spacers, but haven't run em beyond really test fitting... since we can get what we need in 5x100.

That sounds like a bearing issue, nothing to do with the bolt pattern other than the stock 5x114.3 hub uses a better bearing maybe.

I would think it would be MUCH easier to get a better bearing than swapping everything over to a new bolt pattern?
