my crickets went away after 5k of driving the car... since then ive flashed to e85 tune via oft(ran only one tank), however flashing back to 91 brought the crickets back to my car ... note that i was cricket free for almost 25k miles. currently battling with crickets again at 33k

Nope not "mad" although people seem to read everything that is written on here as if the author was mad!
I knew immediately what you were up to as I have read many of your posts before and know you are not a fool!
I was more disappointed (still not mad) at Celadrielas for falling for it and giving serious reply number1,265,864,082 on the subject!

Hey guys just wanted to post my experience. I have had the cricket noise since day 1 at 22 miles, I now have around 1,000 miles. It has had only 93 gas put in until a couple weeks ago, I drove it to empty and filled her up with 91 E/0 crickets went away after I burned through half a tank. Not wanting to continue to run on 91, I am back up to 93 with the crickets returning.

Is there any way to tell in the states if a certain kind of gas doesnt have any ethanol content in it? I've tried Shell's 91 and Chevron's 91 yet still get crickets. I have heard stories of people being successful with either or, but I see to have the queen cricket with her army still in the hood of the car.

It is hit or miss. My car made all sorts fo noises when I got it. Had the pump replaced last summer. Prior to the pump replacement I started running E0 fuel, as some have said they have success with that. I ran E0 for 4-5 tanks after the replacment as well..... crickets came back in about 200 miles after the new pump install.

No alteration in noise based on when/where I fill up, almost always constant no matter how much Ethonal is in my fuel.

Likely.... this is related to the internal pump pressures and flow thru the pump. My dad works exclusivenly with high pressure fuel pumps(rebuilding and calibrating), when he heard the noise, he said it sounds like a pump with air in it on his test benches or when the pressures are too high.

Your dad isn't too far off. The TSB related to this actually mentions cavitation in the pump being the likely cause of the noise.

Sweet, I assumed he was on the correct path. He rebuilds HPFP and injectors for diesels. Has been messign with the stuff for 20+ years. I haven't followed these threads as it seems there is no hope of a "proper" fix any time soon if it hasn't been corrected in ~ 4 years. I just pop in and see if there is any posts on new updates/ecu flashes/ect.

surprisingly..... JDM Toyota 86... my car... with millage of 17000KM, there are live crickets there... not as per what the rest claims it doesn't affect Japan vehicles...

fuel type.. Ron97 with additive bumping up to roughly ron98 or 99. because i bought the car used from Japan, it doesn't make sense to spend a few hundred USD on the pump to eliminate the noise... probably just drive around with it.

That's not what people were doing, they were legitimately going to the dealer repeatedly after hearing about a new fix on the forums (bear in mind this was being done awhile back) and getting it done for free with the only cost being time without their car. Honestly, it's pretty damn obvious this pump won't be sourced from anywhere else let alone any more changes as it's a non detrimental issue. I suspect this "issue" (in quotes due to it not being an issue just people being stupid over a noise) won't be fixed till a major engine update of some sort....

saw some of the members kept on going to dealers and kept changing the fuel pump whenever they got the sound.

but i do suspect brand of fuel does make difference... i was on ron95 bhp brand no such sound.. but this is the first time i'm filling up ron97 shell. and i got that noise...
