Could someone explain as to why? I installed the HKS filter recently, obviously I didn't think much of anything would happen, just figured it would be better for my FR-S instead of the paper/cardboard filter that was in there previously. I also had some trouble figuring out I had to take off the cover of the HKS filter for it fit, install took me about 20 mins longer than it should have, I still worry I put it in wrong, lol.

If this is the case then is it even worth upgrading the filter?

Shouldn't the OEM filter be fine if you are changing it when you're supposed to?

Not that I have seen or experiance. Granted I also have swapped intakes quite a few times trying to diagnose some issues and tend to clean it after a couple swaps since its been pulled out and exposed to more elements. Probably not needed but figured why not since it was already out

Get part number of it and google out some online part shop. It might be cheaper then with dealership's premium costs added.

Good enough for Toyota, good enough for me. Should be just fine.

You could just look up the part number for it on a Web search or inquire about it to the parts department at a local dealership.

I would get the TRD drop-in filter if you wanted to stay with a dealer approved product and benefit from its better features.

Has anyone heard of any aftermarket drop-in filters that fit the new airbox for the 2017 86/BRZ with the manual?

They changed the filter in the new one, so I wouldn't assume it will have the same effect.
