I admit my experience is quite a lot different. I drive fleet cars when I'm at work meaning most of the time I drive my car then something else. I've been driving fleet cars for a long time and despite the vast range of cars I've driven from a bottom feeder Mirage to a Masterati Quattroporte(still the most expensive thing I've driven), I can say not once have I regretted getting a FRS in favour of any of those. So unlike you, I'm never bored with my car...I'm a lot more bored with the mainstream cars, many are better than they used to be but they're usually very iterative by design meaning the old one for the most part is worse than the new one. I never understood before why people keep changing cars so often until I've driven the mainstream stuff. Those cars can get boring fast and its difficult to go back to the old one.
Sports cars on the other hand...not so much. A sign of a good sports car is its still a blast no matter what era its in. Early Mazda MX-5s and old British roadsters are very slow by today's standards(some were even slow for their own day), but the joy they brought back then is the exact same joy you get driving them today. |

Coming close to 5 years in mine... and I can say 2 things that have personally helped me maximise the enjoyment I’ve had. (Some I repeated by the guys above)
1) go away, drive something else if you can. I travel for work so end up on rental cars for a day or two sometimes. When I get home and get back in the seat of MY car - just highlights why I loved it to start with. 2) take time to get out somewhere for a spirited drive/track/autoX/skid pan or just something where you can hoon around for a bit! Again, you’ll love what the car is about. 3) this is my personal take. Do some mods. It’ll either help you customise the car and you can start as small as little interior or exterior bits. I can highly recommend headers and a tune to fill in the torque dip and add a little sound... I did that + flex fuel and LOVED the results. Now I’ve just add some tasty FI (after 4 years+ of driving it) and man I love it even more! I still believe this car offers such good value for money is too often overlooked by the mass market.

Also, if you ever get a rental car (e.g. when you go into your first service), you'll feel that new car excitement again when you get back into your Frisbee. I had a rental Corolla and that car was god awful, I was so happy to get back into my FRS after that.
That being said, I was pleasantly surprised with the Mazda 3 I was lent after being backed into by a coworker. If I had to get a commuter/econobox that would be my #1 pick. |

I've had mine for 7 months and I'm just as excited every time I climb in as I was the first time. And I'm always looking back at it when I park or smiling as I walk towards it. But I had been eyeing this car for years and it was a bit of a dream come true when I finally got it, and I never thought I'd get a Series.Blue to top it off so it's surreal for me. The BRZ was my "realistic" dream car. Corvette ZR1 is my ultimate fantasy.
As another poster said, try adding some simple mods every now and then and see if it reignites the flame for you. I've done a few simple ones myself, although not for that reason, and I find it's extremely fun and relaxing to work on your car (when you love it). |
