Tomei UEL vs Skunk2 Alpha EL

Note: THIS IS NOT MY CAR. I enjoyed the results of this on my friend's car so much that I wanted to post it.

Same car, same mods, same tuner, same dyno (dynapack).

My buddy got bored and decided to swap to the Tomei UEL since everyone seems to be loving it. He had the Alpha on his car already and it was making good power, but wanted to see how the Tomei compared overall.

Would it lose power up top? How would the torque dip compare with his current setup.... Well, the results are both unsurprising, and surprising.

Torque dip, gone... it's a UEL, properly tuned, we expect this. But up top, the Tomei actually carries torque on the top end better than the Alpha, so the average HP above 7k is actually better on the Tomei. Didn't expect that.

I know there are a lot of headers to choose from for our cars, but I found this pretty compelling. For the average bolt on car, I can't see any logical argument in favor of an EL header unless it's for sound preferences. Maybe that's a controversial statement to make, but come on, that torque curve is beautiful now.

And for a bonus, I've also posted a graph that compares the current power output to when the car was 100% stock, on the same dyno.

Now vs stock - lol@there being more torque now than there was hp stock...

And an extra one to show the conditions on the dyno, so you can see how similar the environment was between the two:

I think I need to order myself a Tomei and get down to Vit for a retune!!!

I'd be curious to know if the Tomei run was done recently. Am sure Vit could pull up some data on what the air pressure, humidity and temperature were on the two days. That original Skunk2 run was likely on a 20-30 deg cooler day and if so, wonder if that TOmei is handily beating the skunk2.

Fantastic results regardless and as much as I like the sound of the Skunk2 EL, this is hard to ignore!!!

I think both runs were within the last week or so. I will find out.

Thanks.. yeah.. am sold. Just a matter of ordering the header and getting a tune now.

That new Gruppe-S header is looking interesting. Someone posted a comparison between that and the Tomei UEL. Maybe I should get that Gruppe-S to get a second dyno opinion with a VITune!

Anyone want some header comparisons?? I'd love to see a JDL UEL, Ptuning EL and a ACE header results on a true side by side like this
