I drive at ~80mph regularly, which sits me at about 3500rpm+. So, I figure with this final drive, it should just encourage me to drive a little slower, lol.

Can't do this mod for a while but I'm planning on it

Update: Car is at the shop now. Differential is out and dissassembled as I am typing this. Install is a pretty straightforward affair. Only difficulty is pressing the bearing into the new pinion gear. Changing the ring gear is pretty easy, just reverse the dissasembly method. Will post pics later after the install.

Let us know what shims they use. I know all builds will be different. But I'm just curious. Thanks.

@Tye300 yeah please come back with more details about everything, I'm doing that mod very soon, just waiting @Silverdub to be ready. Did you keep the original bearing or bought new one? How did they put back the bearing on the new pinion? ect the more the better haha.

thanks

I kept the original bearing. We took the stock pinion gear to the machine shop and they took care of it.

I used all the shims that came with the kit.

I thought the kit shipped with a full range of shims and you're only supposed to use the one that fits best?

That is correct. Racecomp only used one shim I believe. Not sure how you determine the number necessary.... But apparently his diff is working.

I just all the new ones supplied with the kit. Did not use the old ones.

If you could supply info on - in the auto and auto sport mode, do the differing/new rev/MPH settings due to the diff affect any behavior other than expected (quicker revs)? I was wondering about the OEM trans software working OK with a mod like this.

This and a CF driveshaft would be really Insano!
Your welcome bro.

Forgot to comment on that. I actually was expecting something to go wrong with the new ratios. Apparently not, the car seems to shift normally during normal AT mode. It just shifts at the same shift points if you just drive normally. The gear indicator seems fine and reads the correct gear, so the ecu doesn't seem to mind the new final drive. During SPORT mode, the revs climb out to redline like stock but is much faster because of the final drive, the same as the video in manual paddle shift mode.

The 4.55 rears paired with a cf driveshaft would probably make the car feel like driving a stick of well-balanced butter....

How did you determin if you had the correct endplay for the bearings?

We took measurements of both ring gears. Both had 41 teeth, the stock one was a little bit thinner than the new one. The stock pinion gear had 10 teeth while the new one had 9. 41/9=4.556. The kit basically come with a pinion gear, ring gear, new screws and shims. We just used the new ones and it all bolted up fine. There was a hiccup with the pinion gear though. During the first reassembly, we used the new pinion sleeve that came with the kit, the pinion gear had a little play if you tug on it. We dissasembled the differential again and tried the old one. Apparently the two sleeves have different lenghts, we tried using the old one and there was no play anymore. Maybe we just got lucky with the bearing?
