Got a picture of my chickens at their new home. New owner said they were real shy the first couple days and didn't explore much, but now are out and about. I miss them.

My white leghorn was my favorite. She would always follow me around the yard and have to tell me all about her day. All 4 would jump in my lap if I was sitting in the backyard.

We had bantams.
Bantams are mean.
If they did that it would be just to try and chew your ear off.
Should one come at you with it's head down and extended you turned and ran.
FAST!

After a very controlled diet I have kept ours to a reasonable size. The white one is down to about 12 pounds and his sister is now only 14. They are not fat they are just huge.
For perspective the chairs they are curled up on are almost 2 feet wide.

Three months later, on the coldest day we had that winter (late February) a little stray that had been hanging around kept coming up on our front porch to visit. She was very friendly but obviously in dire straights (not the band) and freezing.
I could not just leave her out there so I brought her in for the night and was going to take her to animal control the next day.
My son and his girlfriend were petting her and decided that they would keep her until they moved in together in March.
Wife agreed but stated emphatically "SHE BETTER NOT BE PREGNANT"!
She was!
Several weeks later I was away for work and got a call from the wife "The cat had kittens, there are 3 of them and we are keeping the white one" she tells me.
So now we are going to have a cat again.
Daughter takes one of the other kittens.
Nobody wanted the 3rd.
So guess what!
Wife says we keep her as well!!!!!
So now have two MONSTER sized cats when we were "never having another"!
Their mother lost a couple of toes, one ear and half the other to frostbite but lives fat and happy with my son and his girlfriend

Sweet lord no! I would be maimed. In fact when the white one makes a door dash and get's outside the way I get in back in the house is to go and start my car. He runs back into the house in terror.
Since they were born in the house (story above) the only car ride they have had is to the vet to get fixed.

A friend of mine (and also a great mechanic) has chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys, all pretty much free range on his property. His tom turkey was about the most frightening attack creature I've ever experienced... we HATED each other. I'd be talking to my friend, and this creature from hell would come barrelling across his property behind my back and peck/bite me in the back of my thigh... felt like I got shot. The day he butchered that demon spawn was a wonderful day for mankind.

I had a pet Banty hen. She was the nicest lil chicken ever! I found her on the side of the road. Banty's are 1/5th the size of a normal chickens.

She didnt weigh much more than a pound. She would come when I called. And when I told her I was going to pick her up, she would fluff her wings out and let me pick her up.
When I worked in the yard, she would follow me arround. I loved the silly lil chicken. Her name was "Ha Ha Clucker" lol.

She stayed on the porch in a styrofoam cooler with a hole cut in the side. I put a 5watt light bulb covered in tin foil in there to keep her warm. My dog ate her a year later. It was sad, but is the way of things in the country.

RIP Haha.

Maybe they are just ruffians in groups and the roosters were far worse than the hens. We had about 30 of them with one old hen as the matriarch and mother of most of the rest. One day she was carried away by a hawk and we all figured that was the end of an era. Several weeks later she showed back up with one less wing, hardly any feathers and all scarred up. She beat a hawk and lived for a couple more years.

Thought I would bring this thread back since I want to show off Princess.

16lbs, 9 weeks old. Not too fond of bath time.
