A body shop will tell you you need to have the bumper resprayed cause they wanna make some money. That can be touched up.

Just touch it up. Could buy a whole new exhaust system for 800 bucks if you wanted. Such a waste of money for a little scratch.

If i spent all the money repairing every paint chip, scratch etc on my vehicles i could have a turbo for each header outlet for this car by now.

touch up paint doesn't hide on a pearl, I've done it on the bottom of the front lip, and it doesn't match very close. I'm not super OCD, but I don't want a massive difference between the bumper and the rest of the car, which it would be. I'd be fine for a rock chip, but something the size of a silver dollar, and a line right on the crease, it would show really bad.

But anyway, I found a shop with a couple references from work and very high reviews on yelp that would take the bumper off, fix everything and complete respray with a guaranteed match for 473 OTD. So I think that's worth the cost to have a match like nothing happened vs patched looking touchup.

My dad did the same thing. It did not bother me that my father backed into my car and damaged the rear bumper because I love my father mor then materialistic things. I told my father to don't worry about it, but my dad felt guilty, bought a heat gun, and fixed the damage! He burned his hand trying to fix my car. I gave him a hug and told him to leave it alone but the man didn't wasn't satisfied, so he took it to a shop, and had it professionally repaired.

I'm not saying I "love materialistic things more than my family". they offered to fix it, and if you or I damaged someone else's car, we would fix it. It's just common courtesy.

i'm surprised at how negative some of these replies are, honestly. If someone backed into your car you would want it fixed. I'm not being an @ss about it, and demanding it be fixed, it was offered. I don't think anyone would want to drive around with two gashes on their bumper or have obviously mismatched paint on their car.

At least I got a few helpful replies. Thank you those that did, I honestly did appreciate it.

I don't get it, you come here asking if you have to respray the bumper, people tell you no you can touch it up and you get salty? Dafuq? I mean, it's not like theyre going to respray half the bumper or a quarter of the bumper, they're going to do the whole thing if they do it. You're asking us for cheaper alternatives and we're giving it to you.

You say in your first post "it's not super huge." then when people bring up touch ups all of a sudden it's a huge to have paint SLIGHTLY mismatching.

You touch it up, you clear it, you buff out the imperfections. Not hard and it works fine. worked for me under my lip, paint matched just fine with a light to it and everything.

But hey, it's your money do what you please. Don't wanna know what you'd do if your car got doored or something, prolly replace the whole side of the car. Maybe even the tire along with it.

That's a good deal, especially with a "guarantee". Might take them a few times to meet those expectations, however.

That's close to a new bumper + repaint price I believe

That's why I asked if there was a guarantee, haha. That was a non-insurance quote, though. So it may be a little lower than if we go through their insurance, which I'm thinking they want to avoid.

With pearl paint, a full repaint of the bumper will leave you with a bumper that doesn't match the rest of the car. Look at the right angle and you'll be able to tell very easily.

The purpose of this is to blend over a wide area of the bumper so the new paint fades into the old paint's color. With multiple layers in the pearl paint, this is pretty involved.

Check out this thread.. lots of good info:

The guy completely botches the paint application and it still turns out great.

I had a nice size scratch from a curb, so was a big section.

I had very similar damage I paid 420 to get my whole bumper repainted at an auto body shop took them 2 days. I have wrb the paint match is not perfect but it's close enough I know the pearl is the hardest to paint match so don't be surprised if it's not perfect.
