do stock tires lose a lot of grip in low temps?

I live in central texas so
low temps = 60
high temps = 190 ..... j/k ......

Because of the cooler temps and my lack of confidence in the grip of the tires, I went into a turn at 48mph or so where I normally go at 55mph.

The front end still lost grip momentarily in the middle of the corner where there was a small bump. Kind of surprised me because I was slower than usual already...

Maybe your tires are getting old also? How many miles and what temp?

If you were running them warm at 60 degrees I don't see much reason for a significant loss in grip

I am sure they lose some grip. I about spun out the other week making a left turn into work and the back end kicked out where it normally would not under the same throttle. Scared the crap out of me. And all the assists were on too.

If the tires are worn out, I'd replace with nice high performance tires.

tires have only 13000 miles on them. they were not warmed up though but that's the case everyday when I drive that road. I'm thinking maybe I lost some tire pressure, too.

It was a frosty 43 F this morning and I could notice a difference. Just take it a bit easy...

Heatcycling REALLY kills them! The stock tires are like teflon, never wears out and nothing stick to them!
I've done trackdays, long high speed drives (150-220kph for hours), normal commute and everyday driving for a year and 30.000km now, and these tires soldier on. They are nearing the end of their useful life finally, and lately they have REALLY gone downhill. Even before the wearindicators are showing. When they were newer I didn't notice any excessive loss of grip due to temperature. All summer tires are less grippy near freezing.

They are going to lose some, because summer tires...

I have driven mine through last year's Atlanta winter with no problem even though many days I was in below freezing temps, but no snow/ice.

My layman's understanding is that the compound on summer tires is harder than winter tires so you will lose more grip as the temp drops. You would need to be especially careful in inclement weather.

I still am on the fence between getting all-season tires the next round, but I think I will ride out the factory tires for now. I have a second vehicle for bad weather so its possible. If I didn't, or I lived further North, I'd probably change tires.

Do you have the summer Primacy HP's or AS Turanza EL400-02's?

From my experience, summer tires tend to lose grip pretty quickly below 50 F. I didn't get the Primacys though, so I can't speak for those.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S if yearly driven are a quality replacement consideration IMO.

60°F isn't cold enough to really make a big difference on the street, but below freezing you'll notice a sharper drop in grip. If your area uses mag chloride or other anti-ice chemicals, they can make the tires feel greasy and unresponsive. Add that to the cold, and it's a less fun and more uneasy feeling.

I find that once temps hit the 40s, summer compounds start getting sketchy. Especially if they haven't been warmed up. ONce warm they're better, but still not ideal as they would be in high 50s or higher.
