And fyi, Toyota made an affordable Elise, it was the MR2. And we saw how that went down. As well, the Elise offered here in the States only came with 190 hp and THEN a 220 hp supercharged model. Ah! Wouldn't ya know, it supports my point: light weight + more power > light weight

I also don't see how you infer Toyota and Subaru's knowledge based upon Toyota's volume sale of an older, non-syndicated engine to Lotus. Lotus had used the Rover and Honda K series engine previously but for federal emissions (and what I'm sure was a good price) switched to Toyota's to the displeasure of Elise enthusiasts. Many pined for the K series and several went to swap the K20 back in. Subaru is also out of its element with the BRZ, not to say they can't achieve success by making a small, rear wheel drive coupe fun to drive but it isn't what they are known for - then again, they haven't been in WRC for ~4 years, either.

I'm all for the FR-S becoming a big success. I want to see every sorority girl, drifter without a cause, entry level businessman, and retired pharmacist driving one. I'd like the car to be $15k for that happen as well, although it won't, it'll likely be what it's been predicted to be ~$25k. Then a more powerful version will come out that's even more fun or pure (as the fanboi's like to say) to drive.
A little bit of misinformation there. The Rover 1.8 engine previously used in the Elise/Exige was a K series, as in a Rover K series. Not to be confused with the Honda K series. Lotus had intended to use the Honda K series engines but Honda would not sell the engines to Lotus for an agreeable price. There has never been a Hethel built Lotus Elise production road car with a Honda engine. Sun international did import the S1 chassis Elise and swap in B series Honda engines, once in the US for limited road use. Toyota and Lotus have had a long standing working relationship dating back to the 1980's. There are also several Honda K series swap kits for the Lotus Elise/Exige, which may be the spawn of some of the confusion.

I just noticed also. Very minor update though. I guess it's pretty cool to see for which color to choose.
