I think in general the manufacturers really miss the boat when it comes to "factory authorized speed shop" type stuff. If I ever create a car brand, that is exactly what service I would add first.

I think we need more concepts because we just have not seen enough over 4 years.

What I don't understand is that every single review ever has always said "Wonderful handling, needs a little more power." All over the various forums says "wonderful handling, needs at least a little more power, but we'd like a turbo."
Why do they keep coming out with concepts that have no additional power, beyond the one concept with a GT300 racing engine? Subaru has built their reputation on turbocharged flat four engines since the first model WRX back in 1990-something. And they have a history of limited run, higher performance vehicles, with all the type-Rs, type-RAs, S201-4, R205, 330S, 380S, etc... What is so difficult about making a BRZ type Something with a turbo in it? |

Hey Subaru, we want the Legacy with a manual transmission!
Subaru - All Legacy models only come in CVT. Hey Subaru, what about a Legacy GT? Subaru - Nope...we'll make more 3.6R's. Hey...can we have the WRX and STI as a wagon/hatch which you're pretty much known for making? Subaru - Nope..sedans only. Can we get a STI version for arguably you're sportiest vehicle in your lineup? Subaru - No but we will continue making concepts of another concept with new aerokits and fender garnishes. |

Yep. It's disappointing. And I know if they made a 5000 car run of a legitimate turbo BRZ with upgraded suspension and brakes and all the bells and whistles, they'd be sold before they hit the showrooms. And the worst part is that they already have all the parts from their various other cars, so they wouldn't even be reinventing the wheel.

I don't think they care much about it being faster than the STI but I don't see them being able to sell 5K $35K+ BRZs.

It's simple, in every press conference about new models they show a power point. The BRZ represents <1% of all subaru sales. There is ZERO financial incentive to do anything else with this current model. Also I talked to GM and Toyota rep. I told him I want to get access to the Volt and Z06. He said honestly I don't care about press with those cars because the truth is they don't pay the bills. Cars that move over 100k units are what is important. And that what this all boils down to with mass market car companies.

I am ok they don't come up with turbo version so my car would keep a better resale value.

Made it into the press all the way down here
http://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/show...rbocharged-BRZ Article says the car is turbo but is not for production. Quotes some random Subaru people so must be true.

Their cars are all awd, so their transmissions are all basically fwd with a rwd extension, not like a real rwd. Neither Subaru or Toyota have a rwd transmission that take that kind of torque. They would have to go with the next level up aisin which is more expensive and weighs 60 more lbs. Then they have to get beefier everything in the drivetrain, including those worthless axles ( again, because fwd based awd those rear axles only see half the torque at max for their other cars). At the end of the day you are going to end up with like a >30K >3100 lb car like the similar dimension 370z that has to compete in a pretty competitive market segment against the dominant mustang and camaro. This concept car has absolutely no chance of being anything. If so, they wouldn't have put in a gt300 freaking RACE CAR engine in that's probably rated for like 100 hours or something at 450hp |
