OK, the turporken roll is in the oven for the next 3 hours. The house is already smelling like a Cajun kitchen.

Just enough time for a good long nap, before the granddaughters arrive for the package tearing open frenzy.

pa-pa

PS - whatever happened to the Christmas times when each kid got only one big gift and two smaller gifts (the smaller ones being usually clothes)? -

Just had our first solo Christmas dinner tonight. The fiancee said she was going to cook everything, and boy, did she deliver. Honey and brown sugar glazed ham, broccoli and cheese sauce, mashed potatoes, stuffing, fresh baked croissants and gravy.

The big upside is that I've managed to dodge out of any extended family commitments due to her working for the next 4 days.

Now I get to spend the next week or so researching a proper alignment for my car. Oh, the joys of seeing tires destroyed by camber!

when i grew up, my mom had a hard dollar amount per kid. usually $80-100. she made it clear while we were asking for stuff that the number of presents was directly related to how expensive the individual items were.

these days, all us kids are tapped out on other financial issues. so this year, we all agreed to pull 1 name, $20 max. my mom broke the rules and still got a bunch of things for all of us, on average about $50/person. but i guess that's just mom's. and pa-pa's!

Of course, only asked for her to hand me a few dishes that were out of reach with my wet hands.

Icing on the cake is that she even put everything into tupperware as I was doing dishes. What an angel.

My wife spent $150 on Christmas presents for the cats. You do not want to know what she spent on the grand kids!
